Fundamentals Class :
For the independent, but not efficient, swimmer
**More details on the 2026 program dates & times forthcoming.**
Fundamentals class started in the Spring of 2021 when there was a backlog of kids who did not have strong swim skills. They were not afraid of the water. However, they did not know how to swim freestyle. With the use of fins and Coach Kyle’s command, we promoted a large group of kids to swim team by the end of the session. The ongoing intention for our Fundamental Class program is for Spring participants to be promoted to swim team after completion.
Instruction Beyond Swimming
In Fundamentals class, swimmers will learn the following to prepare for Swim Team:
- Good Body Language
- “One hand on the wall and eyes on Coach”
- Group Safety and Swim Class Dynamics
- Sitting on the edge of the pool to put fins on.
- Communication - Meadow vocab and calling back
- Coach: “ We are going to streamline kick on our back! What are we doing?!”
- Swimmers (together): “Streamline kick on the back!”
- Boundaries and Discipline- Swimmers will be warned for not following safety protocols twice.
- First warning: Sit on the deck until invited in the pool
- Second warning: Stand on the deck until invited back into the group
- Third incident will result in an immediate dismissal from the class for the remainder of the day.
