August 5th Update: Fall season gear + meet results

Joseph Shelly

Hi all,

Hope everyone had a good weekend! We are officially on our Summer Break - and I wanted to make sure to post this final update/newsletter of the swim year.

First off, THANK YOU to all the volunteers and helpers I had during the meet! It was greatly appreciated, and definitely needed to be able to pull off another great swimming opportunity for our team. It was daunting knowing that I would not have my usual crew to hold down the fort, but we pulled it off and kept everything on schedule, way to go team!!

Some highlights from that last meet:

Congratulations to our high point winners (scoring includes relay and individual placements):

Girls
  • 8&U: Nysa Patharia
  • 9-10: Caroline Veltri
  • 11-12: Sophia LeMoine
  • 13-14: Sienna Westcott
  • 15+: Gabby Fernandez / Heather Santangelo

Boys
  • 8&U: Beau Baez
  • 9-10: Finn Clark
  • 11-12: Michael Veltri
  • 13-14: Levi Slagg
  • 15+: Micah McNeil

I will give you your high point award when I see you next!

We had several new PBs and fast times - especially good since many swimmers had up to 7 swims in that short period.

  • Our biggest time drop goes to Langley Ludemann with a 13 sec drop in the 50 Fly!
  • We had the following NEW Regionals qualifications based off last years standards (could change but likely the same):
    • Shelby Bahe in the 100 Fly
    • Rowan Johnson in the 100 Back
    • Langley Ludemann in the 50 Fly
    • Levi Slagg in the 50 Fly
    • Landon Taylor in the 50 Free and 100 Back

I will have an updated list of Regionals qualifiers over the break, there were many swimmers that swam qualifying times but these were just the new ones :)

-------

I've updated our Code of Conduct, Team Handbook, and added a new tab to our website for the Fall Season! Please check it out by going to our home page and scrolling to the swimmer tab. It should be the tab labled "Fall 2024 Checklist"

I am pretty sure I have everything between that and the July 26th update, but if I realize I am missing something, I will update that page.

Here is the content on that tab as of August 5th:

Fall Season Gear and Checklist
We are back on September 3/4!

Quick note on required swim gear for all groups"

Our swim team's "team suit" is a standard black suit. This is to allow greater freedom in choosing a suit (all sizes/brands okay, as long as it is competition styled). If you have any questions for any gear, please reach out to Coach Joseph!

Goggles are also important. As a young swimmer is growing, their face shape may change and cause their goggles to not fit as well. This can commonly be seen when goggles fall off during a dive, even with good entry and technique. Prescription goggles are also something that can be purchased (I still have mine after about 10 years, though I replaced the broken strap with a bungee cord). Arena and Speedo are the most common competition goggle brands, and I have had good luck with the Speedo Vanquisher series.

Water bottles will be needed, so that swimmers don't need to travel to the water fountain during sets. It is extremely important to stay hydrated, and it is hard to tell that you are losing water while being submerged. Have your name written on the bottle in case it gets left behind!

Here is our team store link with the recommended style/brands, but there may be other options that work just as well! Please don't hestitate to ask if you see a good deal on a certain piece of equipment and aren't sure if it will fulfill the same role. There are some styles that do not help promote good technique (one common example is a horizontal snorkel that sticks out to the side rather than running straight up the head).

Riptide Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel

Tidal Wave Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel

Tsunami Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel
  • Hand paddles

Code of Conduct and Registration Fee

With the upcoming swim year, we will have our annual registration fee changed slightly this September. This year the registration fee will be $50 per account, rather than per swimmer.

The Code of Conduct for 2024 will be need to be signed before the second week of swim. Those who have not signed the Code of Conduct will not be allowed to jump in the pool until doing so. This can be found with the hyperlink here, or through the website's resources tab (both found under the Code of Conduct tab, and at the end of the Team Handbook).

Consequences range from timeout to suspension/removal of the program, please read through and know the expectations! Safety and wellbeing of our swimmers is our top priority, and there will swift action to breaches in the code.

See you all next time!
