Meet Our Coaches for 2025!

STEVE MACHLIN, Head Coach

Steve grew up in Silver Spring and has long and deep roots in the Montgomery County swimming community. He swam for Parkland pool every summer from age 7-17 and for Northwood High School in his sophomore through senior years. While in college he was head coach for Forest Knolls pool each summer and after graduating helped coach the JCC team for several seasons and started swimming with Masters groups. Steve has lived in Tilden Woods for many years and his daughter swam for TW from age 7-18. During those summers he served as a stroke and turn official at many A and B meets. After retiring from his government career as a health statistician in 2020, Steve joined Tollefson Swimming as an instructor and coach where he’s worked with many TW swimmers. Steve is excited to be returning in 2025 for his second summer as head coach at his home pool and looking forward to a great season!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MALLORY NIEMCZUK, Assistant Head Coach

Mallory is excited to make a return to MCSL this summer with the Tilden Woods Dolphins! She grew up swimming in MCSL for the Glenwood Tigers from the age of 8 to 18, where she also coached their Pre-Team for two summers. Mallory swam for Rockville Montgomery Swim Club (RMSC) from the ages of 10-18 and for all 4 years at Albert Einstein High School. Her coaching journey began when she spent a year as an Assistant Coach for FINS before starting college. After deciding that North Carolina was just too far, she transferred to a school closer to home and felt a pull to get back on the pool deck.  Mallory is in her sixth year as a coach at the Rockville RMSC site where she has worked with the Mini, Senior Developmental, and Senior groups. She is also in her third year as the Head Coach of the Junior 2 group. During the summers of 2018 and 2019, she was the Head Coach of the Rockville Rays. Mallory is very excited to coach for Tilden Woods this summer and is looking forward to having a summer of fun and fast swimming. Go Dolphins!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ELIZABETH, Assistant Coach

This is Elizabeth’s fourth year coaching at Tilden Woods and her eighth year swimming on the team. She swam year-round on All-Star Aquatics for five years, before transitioning to running cross country and track in high school.  Regardless of that switch Elizabeth wouldn’t trade anything for her summers on the Tilden Woods pool deck where she enjoys spending time and making memories with friends and teammates. She loves the TW spirit, and can’t wait to continue passing on her passion and knowledge of swimming to the future of the team. After graduating from Walter Johnson in June, she plans to major in Public Relations somewhere on the east coast.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ABBY, Assistant Coach

This is Abby's fourth year coaching at Tilden Woods, and her tenth year on the Tilden Woods Swim Team. She is not committed to a college yet but plans to major in Early Childhood Education in the fall of 2025. Outside of school, in addition to spending time with friends and family, she works at Stepping Stones Therapy helping in social skills group classes and can be seen coaching stroke and endurance classes with Tollefson Swimming. Since she was little every year she counts down the days until Memorial Day weekend, when she can start spending time with her fellow teammates at the pool.  She loves the Tilden Woods spirit and cannot wait to pass that down to the oldest and youngest of swimmers. She also loves working with kids and motiving them to do the best that they can while also having fun.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MISHA, Assistant Coach

Misha is excited to return for his third year coaching and eleventh year swimming for Tilden Woods. He swims for both NCAP and his high school team at Montgomery Blair where he is also a part of the Magnet program. As a club swimmer he has participated in numerous National Level meets and is a US Open medalist. Swimming for Blair, Misha is a Metros and State Champion, State and County Record holder, three time regional record holder and five time school record holder. He is excited to teach the younger TW swimmers skills that will stay with them for their whole life but, most importantly, build memories that will remind them of the TW team for years to come. NATALIE, Pre-Team Coach/Assistant for 10&U

Natalie is excited to come back to MCSL this summer with Tilden Woods! Local to Silver  Spring, she swam at Kenmont for nine years and has coached with them for the past three.  During high school, she swam with Einstein for all four years, making states her junior year.  Year-round, she swam with Tollefson, even under Coach Steve for a couple of years! She has  experience working with Tollefson as well for the past few years as an in-water and on-deck    instructor. Outside of swimming, she enjoys playing field hockey, listening to music,  watching movies, and taking walks. This fall, she will be a sophomore at St. Mary's College  of Maryland, studying Biochemistry. She is looking forward to teaching younger swimmers  important swimming skills and getting to know the TW community!

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

ANDREW, Pre-Team Coach

Andrew’s favorite day of the year is Memorial Day when he can finally come to the pool.  Andrew joined the Tilden Woods pool family six years ago and is going into his fourth year as a TW Dolphin.  This will be his second year as a Pre-Team Coach and as a Tilden Woods Lifeguard this summer.  He can’t wait not only to teach kids how to swim but also to encourage them to be kind, honest, and an all around good people.  Andrew is a rising junior at Walter Johnson High School. During the school year you can find practicing for a soccer tournament or playing sports with his friends at Tilden Woods park.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JOSH, Pre-Team Coach

Josh started swimming on the Tilden Woods Pre-Team when he was six years old.  He is excited to come back for his second year as an assistant Pre-Team coach, helping the youngest Dolphins gain more confidence and experience in the water as they work towards the Mini Meet!  A rising senior at Walter Johnson High School, Josh enjoys playing football, basketball and lacrosse when he is not at the pool.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

HENRY, Pre-Team Assistant Coach

Henry has been on the Tilden Woods Swim Team for ten years and a coach for two years. He will be a senior in the fall. He loves coaching and helping the Pre-Team grow and have fun. He is a nature person and likes sports.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MAGGIE, Pre-Team Assistant Coach

Maggie has been part of the Tilden Woods Swim Team for nine years and loves both the sport and her teammates. She also swims for the RMSC swim team and is a rising tenth grader at Walter Johnson High School. She also shares her love for swimming with her two younger siblings, who swim for Tilden Woods as well. KATE, Pre-Team Assistant Coach

This is Kate's eighth year on the Tilden Woods Swim Team.  TW has been something Kate looks forward to every summer and she is so excited to be an assistant pre-team coach this year! Kate is a rising 9th grader and a year-round swimmer for the Tollefson swim team.  Kate loves to teach the youngest swimmers the fundamentals of swimming and is an assistant coach at FINS during the year.  She is thrilled to be a part of the coaching staff at TW this summer!
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

INGRID, Pre-Team Assistant Coach

Ingrid is a rising tenth grader at Walter Johnson.  She moved to Maryland from DC and started swimming for Tilden Woods in 2022. She loves to play the cello and run track.  She is lookng forward to swimming and meeting new people in the Tilden Woods swimming community.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

PARKER, Pre-Team Assistant Coach

Parker joined the Tilden Woods swim team when he was seven. Since then he has swam at Tilden Woods for six years. He enjoys watching and encouraging the next generation of swimmers. During the summer he can always be found on the pool deck cheering on teammates and participating in team cheers, socials, and events. The rest of the year he trains and races on Tollefson swimming with some of his fellow Tilden Woods teammates. EVIE, Pre-Team Assistant Coach

This is Evie’s fourth year on the Tilden Woods Swim Team and her first year as a Pre-Team Assistant Coach. She is a rising junior at Walter Johnson High School where she rows for their crew team. Evie is very excited for this summer, as she loves the TW spirit and enjoys spending summers with her team. She is especially excited to spend time with the youngest Dolphins and help develop their swimming skills.
