Swim Buddy
The strength of our swim community lies in its people and the relationships we cultivate. The Darryls use a swim buddy system to foster an environment where our swimmers practice building leadership skills, as well as, promote individial and team success among our swimmers.
At the beginning of each season, we pair swimmers and encourage them to consistently support one another throughout the season. Typically, a swim buddy may be a pairing between a younger and an older swimmer, but it can also be a pairing between a newer swimmer and a seasoned swimmer. Our older swim buddies have many opportunities to practice their leadership skills by providing connection, encouragement and support to their younger buddy. They model team spirit, good sportsmanship and help answer questions their younger buddy may have. The overall buddy experience can be pivotal to both buddies, and it most certainly plays an important part in the overall success of the younger buddy’s experience on the swim team. Regardless of age or experience, our buddies cheer one another on and exchange small tokens/gifts of appreciation throughout the season. These items may be handmade, or store bought, and should not be expensive.
While the swim buddy relationship is incredibly meaningful to both buddies, an additional benefit is their individual families also have an opportunity to come together and find connection and community in each other.
