Hello Tsunamis Families,

Welcome to the 2024 Tsunamis Season!

We’re excited to see our swimmers back on the deck in just a few weeks. As we prepare for the season, we have some important (and exciting!) news to share.

First off, Coach Maureen will be returning this season, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her back! Maureen’s breadth of swimming knowledge and her physical therapist background are tremendous assets to our Tsunami swimmers. Please take a moment to read the message from Coach Maureen here.

We’ve also made the decision to exit the Sacramento Swim League (SSL). Sutter Lawn has been part of the SSL since its inception in the 1950s and has always had a deep loyalty to the organization. Unfortunately, COVID led to two teams leaving the SSL (Natomas and Arden-Arcade). For the two years, the SSL has struggled to function with just four teams. After long, strategic, and heartfelt discussions, research into other swim leagues, and eventual acceptance into the Northern California Swim League (NCSL), the Sutter Lawn Tsunamis, as well as the Sacramento Stingrays, formally departed the SSL late last year.

We are excited about the opportunity this presents for all Tsunami swimmers! Joining the NCSL means that we will maintain the recreational, family feel that our team has thrived on for decades, but also offer more competitive opportunities for those swimmers who wish to dig a little deeper.

As some background, the NCSL was founded in 1993 with 11 original teams and 1,700+ registered swimmers. It has grown to 23 teams with almost 5,000 swimmers. To accommodate dual meets and maintain a competitive nature within the league, the NCSL is arranged in five different conferences that are realigned on a regular basis to ensure the most competitive meets possible. Out of the gates, the Tsunamis will compete in the Nugget Conference and participate in four dual meets and Championships with the Amador Polar Bears, Carmichael Beavers, Rio Vista Sharks, and the SacTown Tsunami. Additionally, the Tsunamis will participate in a league-wide invitational at Rio del Oro and a tri-meet with the Sacramento Stingrays and the Rio del Oro Rapids.

In terms of registration, there will be one additional registration step, given our new affiliation with the NCSL. The NCSL requires registration both with the team and the league.  (The SSL required the same, but our team registrar was able to handle the league registration behind the scenes.) The NCSL requires each family to register their swimmer(s) with the organization. Explicit instructions on how to register your swimmer(s) with the NCSL can be found on our website under the ‘reg info’ tab or simply click here. Please note: registration with the NCSL is mandatory, and not doing so will result in your swimmer not being able to participate in meets, including Championships.

We can’t wait to celebrate this move at our Polar Plunge on February 25th and look forward to another wonderful season of Sutter Lawn Tsunamis!
