Woodcrest White Sharks Swimming

Woodcrest Coaching Staff

With an exciting summer swim program ahead, the Woodcrest Swim Committee is excited to announce our 2025 Assistant Coaching staff who will be led by our Head Coach Ian Anderson returning for his third swim season!  We are so impressed with these two coaches so please take some time to read their Bios and get to know then a little as well.  Please help us welcome both Katie and Michael to our summer team as they are both dynamic and accomplished coaches and along with Head Coach Ian they are ready to guide the next generation of Woodcrest White Sharks.

Head Coach

A person in a suitDescription automatically generatedIan Anderson   Our Head Coach brings 14 years of coaching experience to our team with all age groups and a wide range of competition levels.  He grew up in South Jersey and has been swimming since the age of 7 with Woodbine Swim Club, Tavistock Swim Club, and Jersey Wahoos.  He coached for the East Coast C-Cerpants for 8 years and is a Elementary school teacher.

Ian’s coaching philosophy and Message to the Team: “I believe that a coach’s greatest responsibilities include teaching and supporting their athletes both in and out of the water.  While I will, of course, spend our time in the pool developing skills and techniques specific to swimming, I also believe that building and facilitating positive relationships on the pool deck is what creates a life-long attachment to our sport.  As your coach, I will help you learn to accept failures as learning opportunities, learn to prioritize hard work over immediate satisfaction, and learn how to share your growth with the younger generations behind you.  As your coach, I thank you for your commitment to our swimming community and I can’t wait to be a part of your success!”

Favorite Quote: “Work hard in silence and lets success be your noise”

Assistant Coaches

Katie Barlow   Coach Katie has been a swimmer for 19 years. She competed in the Suburban Summer Swim League for the Medford Village Gators for 11 years and was a 5-time team record holder, as well as a 4-time league champion across multiple events. Katie was an assistant coach of their pre-team for 5 years, and the head coach of the pre-team for 2 years. She was named to numerous All-State, All-South Jersey, and All-Cape Atlantic League teams while competing for Ocean City High School, where she served as captain of the varsity women’s team.  She also coached for the Perkiomen Valley Aquatic Club and has been teaching swim lessons for 6 years. Her philosophy as a coach is to make the sport fun but also challenging, and to build a positive and committed team culture. She concluded her competitive swimming this February after competing for Ursinus College for four years, where she was awarded All-Conference, All-Area, and All-District honors, as well as the Centennial Conference’s Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. Coach Katie was also captain of the Ursinus women’s swim team and a 6x Dean’s List and All-Conference Honor Roll selection. She will graduate from Ursinus as valedictorian of her class as a double major in Politics and International Relations and a double minor in Business and Linguistics. In the fall, she will continue her higher education at UCONN followed by Yale University where she plans on receiving her Law Degree. She is eternally grateful to the sport of swimming for the discipline and lifelong memories it has given her, and she can't wait to share her experiences and extensive swim knowledge with our Woodcrest Swimmers!
