Free Introductory Class

Interested in becoming a Desert Mermaid? Contact us for an introductory class for evaluation and tryouts to qualify for one of our rec teams! Please email our new member liaison at [email protected] to have your child/children added to our tryout roster.

Once approved to join a rec team, click here to register. 

Sharks & Mermaids (Pre-Rec) team: Child shall be at least 4 years of age or older. Must have learned basic swimming skills and tread water in a deep pool, as well as be comfortable underwater. If you're in need of basic swimming lessons, please visit our Learn to Swim section. 

Rec team: Child shall be at least six (6+) years of age or older. This tryout/free class consists of swimming 50 yds of each: freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, flutter kick streamline position on back, 30 sec-1min treading water(classes are in 6'-13' deep water), and introduce some basic artistic swim skills.

​Tryouts and practices take place at the Pavilion Pool (Summerlin).

What to bring: Bathing suit & towel. Also recommended: swim cap, goggles, and yoga mat
