Mother Catherine Spalding was born on December 23, 1793 in Charles County, Maryland. She was the first superior of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. Catherine Spalding arrived at Nazareth on January 21, 1813. She was elected Mother on June 2, 1813. Our Mission Mother Catherine Spalding School strives to promote the message of Jesus Christ through prayer, work and example while providing structured and enhanced educational programs. These programs enrich and promote the students' self-esteem, learning, as well as moral and spiritual values. This Christian community, called Mother Catherine Spalding School, is built from the foundation enhanced by parents, staff, teachers and administrators whose lives are modeled on Gospel values, as they all work together to teach, to serve, to aspire to excellence. Mother Catherine Spalding Elementary School for grades Pre-K through 8 accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and sponsored by the Archdiocese of Washington.
