Before the Meet:

  • Submit your meet delcaration in a timely matter via the Meet Event Entry.
  • Im gemeral, coaches are responsible for selecting appropriate events for your swimmer. If you have a request for particular events, please leave a note for the coach on your meet declaration.
  • Print a heat sheet out at home before the event. Most meet organizers are no longer printing and selling heat sheets.  Review heat sheet and check to see if you are entered properly in your events. If there is a mistake, discuss it with your coach so the coach can take corrective action.
  • Every swimmer is responsible for knowing which events he/she is swimming and for reporting on time for their event. It is helpful to write the event numbers on the back of the swimmer’s arm/leg with a permanent marker before each meet session.
  • Swimmers should set goals for each of the events they enter at a race. Each race provides the opportunity to achieve these goals.

Day of the Meet:

Swimmers should:

  • Arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes before warm-up time and check in with coach.  All swimmers are requited to attend warmups. Exceptions may be granted by the Coach on a case-by-case basis.
  • Stretch and report to the assigned lane(s) for warm-ups. Warm-ups are run by the coach and the coach will be at the lane(s) assigned to our team. Team members are required to warm up with the team.
  • Sit in the "team area" on deck. It is customary for the team to have a “team area” at meets and to sit together as a group. Athletes sit on deck together. This helps promote team unity and team spirit.
  • Wear their team comptetition suit (navy and white or solid navy) with their WAC swim cap.
  • Talk to the coach to go over race strategy before each race.
  • Ask the lane timer for the unofficial time after each race.
  • Report to the Coach immediately after each race. This gives the coach an opportunity to discuss the race with the swimmer and comment on the swimmers splits, stroke technique, race strategy, etc.
  • Complete a warm-down after each race, if a warm-down area is available.
  • Take note of their official times to the 1/100 of a second and record it, as official results are posted. If a swimmer knows their times, goals can be set for the next meet.
  • Rest, stay warm, hydrate and fuel responsibly between races.  Energy should be conserved for the next race.  If swimmers need to eat, a light snack is recommended.
  • Never scratch or late enter an event without first consulting with the coach.
  • Notify the coach before leaving the meet.  It is important to make certain that a swimmer is or is not in a relay at the end of the meet and to go over the day's events and prepare for the next day. If for some reason a swimmer must leave the meet early, please notify the coach as soon as possible so other swimmers can be informed that they are now in the relay.
  • Remove trash and personal belongings from the swimmer area before leaving a meet.

Parents should:

  • Make sure their swimmer reports to the coach 15 minutes before warm ups.
  • Stay off of the restricted deck area
  • Sit together in the spectator area. It is customary for the team to have a “team area” at meets and to sit together as a group. This helps promote team unity and team spirit. (This also helps new families follow the flow of a meet and keeps siblings entertained!)
  • Consider volunteering as a timer, if needed by the hosting team.
  • Cheer for your swimmer, tell them you love watching them swim.
  • Encourage your swimmer to talk with the coach. Remember, parents should parent and allow the coaches to coach!
  • Address all concerns regarding the meet through the coach, not the meet officials. USA Swimming requires that concerns be addressed through the Coaches.

 Behavior at Meets

  • Our team members and family members WILL conduct themselves with respect for the host facility, the officials, and other teams/swimmers/families.  Be couteous and dignified, and represent your team with pride.
  • As a matter of courtesy to the officials and meet hosts, it is mandatory that swimmers and parents stay off the deck and competition walkways unless they are competing or serving in an official capacity.
  • All questions that swimmers and/or parents may have concerning meet results (a call made by an official, or the conduct of a meet) must be referred to the coach. The coach will pursue the matter through proper meet channels.  NEVER DISCUSS A PROBLEM YOU MIGHT HAVE WITH AN OFFICIAL; GO TO THE COACH.
  • As a matter of pride, leave the rest and pool areas as you found them prior to the meet.

·         And above all... HAVE FUN!!!
