Kyle Castro competes at USA Swimming Junior National Championships
USA Swimming hosted the Junior National Championships December 8th - 10th, 2011 at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. This meet is comprised of the top 18 year old and under swimmers in the nation. At the meet this past year over 800 swimmers competed at the meet.
Kyle Castro, who trains with the National group, qualified to swim in three events for this meet. Kyle competed in the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly. This meet was a tremendous experience for Kyle as he gained more knowledge and insight into racing at the elite level. Swimming at this level he swam righ at his best times over the course of the weekend came home excited to continue training to further his career.
Traveling to this meet was very valuable for Kyle and for other athletes in the future for several reasons: learning to race in a world class facility with the top athletes in the country, traveling (flying in a plane, adjusting to time zones, eating healthy while on the road, packing light but having everything), keeping up on your studies while away from home (they expect this college as well!), at times being the only athlete from your team at the meet, and learning to race with the same positive mind set as you do at meets in your LSC. All of these experience will only help Kyle and future swimmers in their growth as a student/ athlete.
Congratulations Kyle on a job well done at Junior Nationals!
