Vacaville "shines" at home meet!
Over the weekend of February 3rd – 5th, the Vacaville Swim Team hosted a BB +/- meet at home for the Sierra Nevada LSC. There were over 15 teams present and 400+ swimmers competing. The meet had some of the best weather in recent years and a smooth, efficient meet was run.
Coach Sarah stated the following for the Red, White & Blue groups. The weather was perfect for our swimmers so we had tons of best times, new times and Junior Olympic cuts!! I was happy to see our newest swimmers participating in the meet. It was a good time to learn what a big meet is all about. Some new swimmers even came to watch the meet and cheer on their teammates. Very happy to see everyone doing so well! Good meet!!
Coach Grace made the following comments in regards to the Gold and Junior 2 groups. The Gold and Junior 2 groups are doing very well. At the Vaca Meet all the swimmers that had attended did exceptional. The swimmers' goal for the meet was to shed time in any event they were doing for that weekend. All the swimmers that attended the meet, had shed time in one or more events they did. In doing so, several swimmers made B times and BB times. They are applying the workouts we do in practice to the swim meets. For example; working on stroke technique, timed 25's, 50's, etc., IM workouts, dives and finishes. All of my swimmers are doing great and keep improving each and every day. I was very content with how the meet went and how good the swimmers did.
Coach Jared shared his thoughts on the Senior II group. The Senior II group had decent attendance for the February BB meet. We had many swimmers drop times in their events. Madison Salsgiver earned her BB time in the 50 free, qualifying her for the Junior Olympic meet and many other "B" times during the weekend. Ian Hustad had close to a :30 second time drop in his 200 free. This meet I finally got to see some of my swimmers race that had not yet attended a meet under my watch. These swimmers included: Lauren Freese, SuJenna Griner, Evan Miracle, Madison Salsgiver and Josh De Los Reyes. I also challenged some swimmers to branch out and race some more challenging races such as the 400 IM, 500 and 1000 free. The Senior II group has increased both yardage and intensity the month prior to the meet and the training was visible throughout the meet. The endurance level of our group has improved greatly, which is very motivating. I look forward to taking a few of our swimmers to the JO meet.
Coach Wedaman’s take on the meet: COWABOGA! What great weather and what great swimming for the SR 1 and JR 1 Groups this past weekend. The groups had 38 new JO times 15 of them in the 1000 Free. Megan Flynn swam three new Far Western Q times, the 50, 100 and 1000 Freestyle. The groups have been working on everything and it showed with great kicking in their races and great aerobic capacity in the 1000.
This is very exciting as we now start getting ready for the Junior Olympic meet the first weekend of March.
Coach Darin was excited to watch swimmers from all the groups having fun and racing fast throughout the weekend. He saw a lot of great kicking and swimmers racing hard to the wall in their respective events. For the National group he liked the focus of the swimmers on getting out past the flags underwater off the starts and turns. He was also impressed with the swimmers attitudes and team spirit throughout the meet. He also like the pride that was presented by the swimmers in racing to the wall and in getting their hand on the wall first.
The Coaching Staff would like to thank all of those parents who helped put this meet together. It takes a team to run an event like this and your help is greatly appreciated by the swimmers and the staff alike. We look forward to a lot of great meets to come in the future.
