VACA swimmers have excellent Far Western Championship Meet!

  The Vacaville Swim Team sent a group of swimmers to compete at the short course yards Far Western Championships, March 29th - April 1st, 2012.There were over 1700 athletes competing and over 12 different States represented at the meet.  The meet provided a little bit everything with the weather from hot and sunny, to rainy and windy.  The Vaca swimmers prevailed with a lot of fast swimming.

  The 11 & 12 girls came to race on Thursday with a great swim in the 400 Medley Relay.  The team consisted of the following swimmers:  Sierra Carmelich (Backstroke), Julia Key (Breaststroke), Sabrina Sivilay (Butterfly), and Megan Flynn (Freestyle). The team did a great job of stepping up and racing.  They dropped :07 seconds from their time that they had posted only four weeks earlier at JO's. 

  On the individual side, the team raced hard and with a "never say quit" attitude!  There were a multitude of best times and second swims with swimmers making it back into finals.

  Congratulations to Kyle Castro for being the High Point Award winner for the 17 - 18 boys!  Kyle took 1st place in the 200 yd. Freestyle, 200 yd. Backstroke and 200 yd. Butterfly!

  Congratulations to Matt Abernethy for racing to a 1st place finish in the boys 15 - 16 1000 yd. Freestyle!

  For the 11 - 12 girls Megan Flynn had four best times and dropped a whopping :25 seconds in the 1000 Free.  Julia Key competed in the 100 Breaststroke and went a best time.  For the 15 - 16 boys, Matt Abernethy also placed in finals in the 100, 200, 500 Freestyle and the 100, 200 Butterfly.  Sam Starks dropped nine seconds to final in the 400 IM.  Andrew Castro raced to top eight finishes in the 1000 and 1650 Freestyle.  For the 17 - 18 boys, Kyle Castro also competed in the finals of the 100 & 500 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke and 100 Butterfly.  Ryan Tunney placed in the top ten for the 200 Freestyle making the finals.  For the 17 - 18 girls, Breanna Schafer swam to a top eight finish in the 1650 Freestyle.  Kady Rubio raced in finals in the 200 & 500 Freestyle, 100 & 200 Backstroke and 100 & 200 Butterfly.  Amanda Doston competed in finals in the 100 & 200 Breaststroke.

  Congratulations to all of the Vacaville Swim Team swimmers for a great competition.  This is one more stepping stone for the swimmers and the program!
