VACA Masters Give Strong Performances at the Pacific Masters SC Championships
Vacaville Masters swimmers had an outstanding meet at the recent Pacific Masters Swimming Championships held at Campolindo High School in Moraga, CA.
First place finishers in individual events included the following athletes:
Rick Busquets (35-39) – 50 Free
Sue Gibbs (55-59) – 50 Back
Karen Jensen (40-44) – 100 Free, 500 Free
James Ramirez (25-29) – 200 Fly
Jared Rondoni (25-29) – 1000 Free
The relays were also very fun and exciting and Vacaville Masters finished strong and showed tremendous support and team spirit. On Saturday afternoon in the pouring rain, the Mixed Relay (25+) team of Dan Tilly (50), Katie Irwin (26), Karen Jensen (44) and Nick Lillard (29) pulled out a close victory in their division in the 400 Freestyle Relay with all of the teammates cheering them on. On Sunday, the Men’s 200 Free Relay (25+) team of Dan Tilly (50), Nick Lillard (29), James Ramirez (28) and Rick Busquets (37) not only won their division, but posted the fastest time overall for the race. With fast swimmers barreling down the pool in all lanes and all legs of the relay, it was incredibly exciting to see the VACA Masters win such a FAST, CLOSE race!
A big congratulations and thank you to all who participated in the championships. This was the highest placing we have ever had as a team (11th out of 60 teams).
