National & Senior Groups Race at Summer Sanders Invitational

Over the weekend (6/8/12 - 6/10/12) the National and Senior Groups from the Vacaville Swim Team competed in the Summer Sanders Invitational.  This is a long course Trials and Finals meet.  As it is one of the last meets to qualify for the Olympic Trials there was a large group of swimmers competing at the meet representing the Sierra Nevada, Pacific Swimming and Oregon Swimming.

The Vacaville Swim Team had seventeen swimmers from both groups racing in the meet.  This was a great experience for the swimmers to compete in a Senior level meet with swimmers from so many different areas.  All of the swimmers learned valuable lessons from the meet.  Some of those lessons included racing your own race, the importance of underwater kicking and streamlining, being prepared behind the blocks by having an extra set of goggles or cap and and the value of a long cool down following each race to name just a few.

Sam Starks, Matt Abernethy and Billy Mullis all made second swims to compete in finals during the meet.  In finals Bill Mullis competed in the 400 IM, Sam Starks raced in the 100 backstroke, 100 & 200 breaststroke and the 200 & 400 IM and Matt Abernethy made finals in the 200 & 400 freestyle, 200 backstroke and the 100 and 200 butterfly.
