Vacaville competes at Sr. Western Zones
Swimmers from the National and Senior group traveled to Clovis, Ca. (August 2nd – 5th) to wrap up the long course season by racing at the Senior Western Zone Championship meet. The meet doubled in size from a year ago and hosted over 750 swimmers from Northern & Southern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona. This was a trials and finals meet and a very competitive meet with a lot of fast swimming.
The team gained a lot of experience with swimming two finals and trials meets with only ten days of practicing in between the two meets. The swimmers did a great job of stepping up and either matching best times from the Junior Olympics or bettering those times.
The team was represented in the finals with Matt Abernethy making the Championship final in the 200 Butterfly placing 8th overall and winning the Consolation final in the 100 Butterfly placing 9th overall. Natalie Garger also raced into the finals. Natalie won her Consolation final race in the 100 Breaststroke placing 9th overall.
