Vacaville competes at Husky Invite
The Vacaville Swim Team’s National group sent four swimmers to the 64th annual Husky Invitational November 30th – December 2nd in Tacoma, Washington. This is a trials and finals meet that has time standards that have to be attained to attend the meet. The meet is composed of college teams and USA Swimming club teams. This year there were over 1,000 swimmers in attendance.
Matt Abernethy, Billy Mullis, Sam Starks and Ryan Tunney all competed over the three days and had a spectacular meet. In each of three relays that the team competed in they moved up a minimum of ten places in the overall standings and all swam 100% best times in each of the relays.
Matt Abernethy competed in finals in the 100 & 200 Butterfly and the 100, 200 & 500 Freestyle and made new Sectional cuts in the 50 & 100 Freestyle. In the 100 Butterfly Matt broke the team record swimming a :50.81! Billy Mullis made finals in the 200 Backstroke and made new Sectional cuts in the 200 I.M. and the 200 Backstroke dropping over :05 and :03 seconds respectively. Sam Starks was the first alternate in the 400 I.M. dropping 8 seconds to swim a 4:15.77. Sam also dropped three seconds in the 200 Back and five seconds in the 200 I.M. Ryan Tunney improved in each of his four swims and made two new Sectional cuts in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle.
The group continues to gain a tremendous amount of experience traveling and racing against collegiate swimmers and some of the top age group swimmers in the area. The team traveled very well and worked great in helping each other to push themselves throughout the meet.
