2013 Spring Splash results are in...

The Vacaville Swim Team participated in their first long course meet of the season at the 2013 Spring Splash held last weekend at Folsom Aquatic Center. VACA swimmers were quick off the blocks in anticipation of this upcoming fast-and-furious long course season! This meet served as the first stepping stone leading up to the end of summer meets such as Junior Olympics, Far Westerns and elite meets for the senior-level swimmers.

Shoutouts to the following swimmers for their exciting performances:

Coty Norton (Coach Darin - National Group) for breaking a minute in the 100 meter free. The challenge was to break a minute and get the entire group out of Monday morning practice. Always a popular one with the swimmers and Coty stepped up to try it and DID IT! 59.87! Congratulations.

Coach Wedaman’s Junior I and Senior I groups focused on a fun challenge at the meet. If the group dropped an average of 10 seconds per swimmer for all of their races combined, they would get a pizza party (15 seconds average per swimmer means an extra surprise!) Result of the challenge: Junior I dropped 382 seconds with 11 swimmers (34.7 seconds per swimmer average) and Senior I dropped 816 seconds with 20 swimmers (40.8 seconds per swimmer average). What? That’s awesome! Tim Lee’s mom, Charmaine, said, “Tim will do anything for pizza! He would have dropped time for the whole group if he needed to just for that opportunity!” Hahaha! Gotta love that guy! The other result of the challenge: The groups had 12 new “A” times and 46 new “BB” times!

A shoutout to Senior I athlete, Julia Key, for a new Far Westerns time in the 13-14 200 meter breaststroke.

More shoutouts:

Coach Jared’s Senior II and Varsity groups had 21 best times from 8 swimmers! Three new “BB” times and six new “B” times were earned. And something that will make any coach smile …there were no disqualifications!  Congratulations on the great coaching and the great focus by the swimmers!

Special congratulations to our youngest superstars in Coach Grace and Coach Megan’s groups:

Makayla Medeiros went to her first competitive swim meet! She received two new best times in the 50 free and the 50 back.

Kevin Jusino (Gold) – personal bests in the 50 Breast and 100 Fly (dropping 10 seconds!)

Salome Carmelich (Gold) - 3 new Junior Olympic cuts (very close to making her “A” time in the 50 back).

Isabelle Meraz (Gold) - 4 JO cuts, “A” time in her 50 back (and close to another “A” time in her 100 free).

Sophia Chun (Gold) - 4 new JO cuts (dropping 18 seconds in her 50 breast!)

Coach Megan’s Red, White and Blue Groups – being that it was the first long course meet ever for many of her young swimmers, there were many new times and best times (with some of the swimmers achieving their first “B” and “BB” time standards). They did a particularly great job of racing, dives, technique, and having fun!

The final shoutout goes, as always, to the parents, who are always there, always supporting the team, the coach, their swimmer, their swimmer’s teammates. Thank you so much. You are the “glue”…it all comes together because of YOU!
