Swim-A-Million Results!
Our annual Swim-A-Million fundraiser was Saturday, Oct. 26th. Swimmers from every group came together, including our masters swimmers, to try to swim one million yards as a team! For the past several weeks our swimmers have been working diligently to earn donations for our team while preparing for a challenging day of swimming in an effort to reach that one million yard total.
Saturday morning the masters hit the water first, with the National group jumping in only 30 minutes later (in the dark and cold of the late fall morning). The rest of the groups would follow throughout the day, filling and emptying the pool while parent volunteers whipped up pancakes to feed those swimmers who had completed their swims. Our littlest Waves joined in just before lunch and were awesome in swimming more yards than many of them had done before!
After a break, our National, Senior1, and Varsity groups (as well as some Senior2 swimmers) jumped BACK IN THE WATER to get one more push for the million yards in to wrap up our event. Upon the conclusion of the swimming our hard working Waves were rewarded with ice cream for their amazing efforts.
In the end, the team fell just a little short of the one million goal, finishing up with over 860,000 yards - still an amazing accomplishment!
In addition, our swimmers raised over $8,800 dollars in donations toward the team!
Our top dollar earner, bringing in $1,150 dollars was Jadah Francisco! Second place was Christopher Ton who raised $1,000. Third was Katelyn Willis who earned $550, fourth was Leah Harlan at $345, and rounding out the top 5 was Maya Gioia with $327.50! Each of these swimmers were rewarded with a prize for their efforts. Many other swimmers were rewarded with either a team backpack or sweatshirt for their fundraising.
A huge thank you to all of the swimmers who raised money for the team! Thank you as well to all of the parent volunteers who helped put on this event. And one final thank you and congratulations to all of the swimmers - age groupers and masters - who participated! Next year we will have another shot at cracking that one million yard barrier!
GO WAVES!
