Vaca Swimmers Making Big Waves at Home Meet!
From Coach Jared:
This was many of our swimmers’ first swim meet and everyone swam well! Before the meet we really focused on streamlines and freestyle flip turns. I was keeping my eyes especially focused on these specifics from all of the swimmers during their races. As a whole the red and white groups had some great streamlines off their walls and our freestyle turns are developing nicely. There were many new best times and time standards achieved. By the time Junior Olympics rolls around Red and White will have a large showing.
There were a number of DQ slips throughout the weekend, but remember that this is part of the process. Though it can be disappointing for your swimmer it is actually not a bad thing. The disqualification slip is there to pinpoint a specific aspect of a stroke to work on. This is what makes your swimmer’s strokes better and faster in the long run.
From Coach Lauren:
The Vaca Meet was the first meet that Junior 2 swimmers attended, and boy was it a knock out! Each swimmer had been working hard in practice, as well as making huge improvements in their technique. It is because of their hard work and dedication that I expected those who swam in the meet to do very well, and everyone did! A big congratulations is due to Zoe Johnson, Anna Gagnebin, Nathan Mills, Bradyn Jacobs, and Jadon Alagao for their accomplishments! Nathan Mills and Anna Gagnebin both met their goals for their favorite events. Nathan dropped 8 seconds in his 100 fly and Anna dropped 8 in her 100 free! They are both very proud of this accomplishment and are looking forward to setting new goals for our next meet!
From Coach Wedaman:
The Senior 1 and Junior 1 groups certainly took advantage of the great weather and of the great training that these two groups have been doing this fall and performed very well.
Tim Lee added two new Far Western Qualifying times in the 1650 Free and the 200 IM.
Other outstanding performances were turned in by;
Casey Cox who had 8 out of 11 best times, Gabriela Hernandez was 8 of 8,, Genna Lammon was 6 of 8, Izzy Mitchell was 9 of 10, Jillian Williams was 7 of 8, Alexio Cabanero was 6 of 6, Andy Ramirez was 7 of 7, Christopher Ton was 6 of 8, Lukas Bechtel was 9 of 9, Tim lee was 7 of 9, Amrit Singh was 7 of 9 and Brooklyn Casey was 9 of 11.
From Coach Grace:
At the Vacaville Meet, Senior 2 and Varsity had a ton of good swims. I saw our group be aggressive and really get after each event the swimmers competed in. We had several best times and individuals making B, BB, and A times. I was really impressed seeing such a high attendance at our meet. I would like to see this more at the away meets. Meets give the swimmers a chance to challenge themselves and utilize the skills they learn in practice. It also allows them to hang out with their teammates and get a chance to talk amongst themselves because at practice they do not really get a chance to chat as they are training. So seeing the camaraderie was awesome and this will encourage more swimmers to attend meets because they will make the connection that not only is racing fun, but I get to be around my teammates. Lastly, thank you to all the parents for volunteering and being involved with your swimmers. Go Waves!
From Coach Brad:
The weather could not have been more perfect for our home meet this year, and the National group made it their mission to show up and represent with some extremely strong performances! After an increase in training and a focus on holding specific, consistent paces, the National group swimmers came into the weekend with the goal of swimming smarter races, specifically with regard to pacing. This was very evident Friday night as the mile was a great event for us! Almost every National group swimmer posted a best time, with 3 different swimmers dropping over 1 minute! The strong swims continued throughout the weekend and I was very pleased to see the results of all of their hard training paying off with fast race times and smart swims across the board.
Coty Norton and David Van Buskirk had amazing weekends, each recording 8 new best times for the weekend. Coty had an amazing mile swim, dropping over 1 minute and 16 seconds; he also broke a major milestone by going under 5:00 in the 500 freestyle for the first time! David swam his first ever mile, and is looking stronger and more confident in all of his races.
Abby Mitchell led the girls with 6 new best times, including a drop of 1 minute and 45 seconds in her mile and a drop of 19 seconds in her 400 IM! Leah Johnson had 4 best times, including a 1 minute and 16 second drop in her mile. Yvette Arca also had a great weekend with 3 new best times, and Ari Sweany rounded out the major mile drops with a new best time by over 37 seconds!
I am really looking forward to seeing how these swimmers finish out their season with our travel trip to December!
Go Waves!
