National Group Makes Final Tune Up at SASO!

From Coach Brad:

With little more than a month until their season-ending, championship meet in Arizona, the National group participated in a quad meet with swimmers from SASO, Vallejo, and Aqua-Sol this past weekend at Solano Community College. This meet was the swimmers' final tune up meet, where the goal was to implement any changes they have made in practice into their racing in an effort to see their progress toward their season-end goals. Overall, I could not have been happier with the results!

The group all came out Friday night to swim both the 500 free and the 50 free. The girls went 5 for 7 new best times and the boys were 2 for 2! Francesca Minouei dropped 12 seconds in her 500, Yvette Arca dropped 10, and Lauren Chun had a phenomenal swim (in an event she hadn't swum in almost 4 years!). For the boys, Coty Norton continues to find ways to drop time, going under 5:00 for the second consecutive meet with a 4:57! And David Van Buskirk showed his newfound middle distance muscle with an almost 30-second drop with a 5:15!

I saw very good speed in the 50 freestyles. Abby Mitchell and Yvette Arca had awesome swims for the girls, cracking the 28 second barrier to both swim 27's for the first time.

Saturday, each swimmer had three events to focus on preparing either their specialty stroke or to work on their "off" events. Yvette continued her great meet with a 5 second drop in the 200 free, and finished 3/5 best times on the weekend. Abby Mitchell continues to drop time in nearly everything she swims, recording bests in the 200 free, 100 fly, AND 200 IM. Coty Norton had a great 100 fly with a new best time. And one more major milestone was recorded this weekend, as Lauren Chun didn't just break the 1:00 in the 100 free, but shattered it, dropping down to a 58.9!

The National group is looking strong and fast and I am excited to see how they wrap up the season next month in Arizona! Great job to the entire group!

GO WAVES!
