Vaca Waves head to Stockton for Tiger Tail Meet!
Tiger Tail Meet
Coming hot off of a great performance at the high school sections meet and post-sections meet at Davis, the Senior Elite group had to quickly shift gears and prepare themselves for long course racing as we headed down to the Tiger Tail meet at University of the Pacific in Stockton. This was yet another great opportunity for the Elite group to visit a college campus and see a collegiate aquatics center, while also gaining great experience racing outside of our LSC against some very strong swimmers from teams in the Pacific LSC.
One of the fun things about this meet is that each heat winner is awarded a stuffed tiger tail as a prize, and as a result, these quickly become a highly coveted item, resulting in some great racing as each swimmer tries to get their hand on the wall first to earn that tiger tail! The Elite group did a great job, and earned several throughout the weekend. More importantly is that this helped us earn some great new best times!
Top performers of the weekend included:
David Van Buskirk going 6 for 6 best times, including a 10 second drop in the 200 free, a 13 second drop in the 200 breast, and a 2.5 second drop in the 100 breast.
Coty Norton with 5 new best times including a 10 second drop in the 200 fly and a 6 second drop in the 400 IM.
Abby Mitchell also with 5 new best times with a 14 second drop in the 200 free, a 2 second drop in the 100 free, and a 22 second drop in the 800 free.
Leah Johnson with 4 new best times with an 11 second drop in the 200 free and a 7 second drop in the 200 IM.
Gabby Harvey also adding 4 new best times with a 10 second drop in the 400 free and a 4 second drop in the 200 back.
Yvette Arca with 3 best times including a 24 second drop in the 200 free, a 14 second drop in the 200 fly, and a 4 second drop in the 200 IM.
Also at this meet I got to watch two of our black group swimmers as they traveled with their older siblings to Stockton. To say that I was impressed wouldn’t even begin to cover it! These two swimmers had amazing meets, dropping tons of time left and right and earning a whole bunch of new JO times in the process!
Congratulations to Camille Arca and Sophia Chun on their fantastic meets. Camille went a perfect 7 for 7 with new best times, and Sophia was 5 out of 7!
Go Waves!
