Stand Out Swims and Team Records at Summer Sanders Invite!

From Coach Brad:

After being gone for two weeks, I was excited to return to the pool to see our swimmers competing in the Summer Sanders Meet. This has blossomed into one of the premiere age group trials & finals meets in our area, and draws over 1000 swimmers each year! This meet has a long and proud tradition of fast swimming, which includes multiple Olympic Trials cuts made by Sierra Nevada, Pacific, and other LSC swimmers. To see our Vaca Waves go up against this type of competition is exciting and inspiring as our swimmers continue to strive for excellence.

Overall, I thought the Senior Elite group did a great job. While struggling in the midst of some difficult mid-season training, the swimmers still came out and represented well. It was a great opportunity to check in on the progress made so far with our long course training and to get some ideas of things to continue working on as we approach our championship season-ending meets.

Outstanding performances from the weekend included:

Lauren Chun with 5 new best times, including big drops in the 100 free, 100 back, 200 back, and 200 IM

Gabby Harvey going 3 out of 4 best times, including a 7 second drop in the 800 free and a 4 second drop in the 200 fly

Leah Johnson going 4 out of 5 best times, highlighted by a 14 second drop in her 200 fly!

Abby Mitchell with 4 new best times, including a 5 second drop in the 400 free and a 44 second drop in the 400 IM!

Coty Norton had 3 best times, which included an 11 second drop in his 200 breast

David Van Buskirk had the best meet of the group, with 7 out of 8 best times! Highlights of his were an 8 second drop in the 400 free, an almost 20 second drop in the 200 IM and a 6 second drop in the 400 IM!

Coty and David both qualified for finals – Coty in the 400 IM and David in the 400 IM and 200 breast – but neither boy was able to return for finals due to family commitments.

Special congratulations go out to Abby Mitchell (the younger, currently in Silver 1) for making her first final at this meet, and to Tim Lee, who also made finals and broke two team records! (see below)

From Coach Wedaman:

This was a great learning experience for Silver 1 swimmers.  It is not often that you go to a meet and have 200 or more swimmers in your event.  The group had some great swims and two of the swimmers made it to finals which means that they were in the top 27 in their events.

Tim Lee was in finals in the 100 Free, finishing 24th, in the 100 Fly, where he was 27th, and in the 200 Fly he where was 16th. Tim managed to break two team records with his great performances – his 100 Free with a time of 55.86 and his 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.42. Congratulations Tim!  Abby Mitchell also got a second swim in the 200 Breast and was 26th.

Other outstanding swims:

Georgia Guinan’s new A time in the 100 Free

Gabriela Hernandez’s new A time in the 100 Back

Genna Lammon’s new AA time in the 100 Back

Abby Mitchell’s new AAA in the 100 and 200 Breast, and new AA in the 400 IM

Sydney Williams’ new AA in the 50 Free and new A’s in the 100 Free and 100 Back

Jalen Lloyd’s new AA in the 100 and 200 Breast
