Fall Frenzy Meet a Great Start to the Season!

From Coach Brad:

What a wild weekend for our first swim meet of the season! We had a thunder-and-lightning-delayed Friday night, which shifted the mile swims to Saturday and Sunday, a beautifully sunny Saturday, and then a cloudy and windy Sunday. That pretty much put our swimmers to every kind of test they could handle! And I must say, the swimmers really rose to the occasion and swam great! They were backed up by an amazing showing from our parents and volunteers to put on a fantastic swim meet! Many of the officials and other team’s coaches commented on how smoothly our meet ran; so thank you to everyone for helping make this swim meet a success!

The Senior Elite group came out to this meet looking to establish some early-season swims that would reflect the hard work they have been putting in to make changes to their strokes, starts, and turns. After the first few weeks of the season spent on drills and slowly working their way back to racing form, the swimmers each came in to the weekend looking to make changes and adjust to some new techniques. Many of the swimmers were racing in events they only swim once or twice per year, so our expectations were high. The swimmers delivered, turning in many best time performances, and many more that were matching their best swims from last year. I was very pleased to see improvements across the board in all 4 strokes, with many swimmers making huge improvements in some of their “off” events. This foundation makes me very excited to see what our swimmers in the Senior Elite group will do as we build through the season!

While many of the Senior Elite swimmers had great swim meets, the stand-out swimmer from this meet was Sydney Williams. It seemed like every time she stepped up on the blocks she was delivering a huge time drop. She went a perfect 8 for 8 best times, including a drop of over a 1 minute 30 seconds in her mile, a 13 second drop in the 200 breaststroke, a 7 second drop in the 200 IM, and drops of 3-5 seconds in the 200 back, 100 fly, 100 breast, and 100 back! Great meet Sydney!

On the guys’ side, David Van Buskirk continued to show his strong improvement, recording 7 new best times throughout the weekend.

Other swimmers with multiple best times included:

Abby Mitchell with 4 best times

Taji Jennings, also with 4 best times

Leah Johnson with 3 new best times

Lukas Bechtel with 3 new best times

And Tim Lee, also with 3 new best times.

Congratulations to all of the Vaca swimmers on a great meet! I am excited to see what is in store for the rest of the season!

From Coach Grace:

Our Home Meet was a huge success for the Varsity Group! I saw a ton of great swims and all of my swimmers going FAST! I had 13 out of 20 swimmers attend (which is 65% of my group) this meet. Yes, 65% is low, but this is the highest attended meet yet! I would like to continue to see an increase in meet attendance.

At the meet the Varsity swimmers who attended, received 42 new best times as a group. That is an 82.35% improvement from those who swam at the meet! That is huge! I was extremely happy to see this because each and every swimmer tries very hard in practice and realizes that we only have 7 1/2 hours of practice time. So every hour, every minute, and every second is so valuable to their training and improvement.

Along with the 42 new best times, as a group we gained 14 new B standard times! I see the Varsity group getting some new faces on our Junior Olympic Team in the near future if we keep training as hard as we do! We also as a group, obtained 3 new BB cuts and 1 A time.
Good job Varsity! You guys rocked at our home meet!

GO WAVES!

From Coach Sarah:

I am so proud of all my swimmers for signing up and swimming at the Fall Frenzy. I was informed that all my swimmers were great at being there and warming up, approached each race with great attitudes and swam really well in their events. This was the first swim meet for a lot of swimmers in my groups and man did they do well! The swimmers that have been swimming in my groups showed great improvement in the results by faster times and got a lot of personal best times. They were also very excited to teach all the new swimmers how the meet goes, where to go, how much time they dropped from previous meets and where the snack bar was. I would like to send a special thanks to the coaching staff for backing me up this weekend at the meet, especially our newest addition Coach Jaime. As I enjoyed watching my brother get married, I could help but text and find out how all the kids were doing. When I returned I sat down with the groups and asked them their thoughts on the Pro's and Con's, let’s just say they all had great things to say, loved that they could help volunteer when they weren't swimming and definitely enjoyed the fully stocked snack bar all weekend. I am so very proud of all the swimmers and can't wait to see them swim at the next meet. Thank you again parents for all that you do to support your swimmers and our team.
