2024 Bill Rose Summer Champs Swim Meet
Last year the team brought about 20 athletes and this year we doubled that with 40 athletes! Several best times and finalists each day! Iit was also awesome to see teammates staying behind to count for our Distance Freestylers athletes and coming back for finals to cheer on their teammates. Love our team culture.
The meet was a hot one in and out of the pool with temperatures hovering between 100-113 degrees each day. Regardless of the heat, the Waves came out in force at the Bill Rose Classic! Each athlete took care of themselves in and out of the pool and it showed in the pool. Way to handle business athletes! At the meet we bumped up to medium sized team and overall we placed 4th in the division with Vaca only being 20 points behind from the 3rd place team. Great job athletes for working towards your swim goals! All your hard work paid off!
Here is how each athlete did:
Mik Anello-She was not feeling too hot during the meet but did the best she could being slightly off her best time in the 200 free but dropping time in the 50 free!!!
Daniel Barrow-This mighty 8 year old rocked it! He had a great meet and stepped up in the relays when the team needed him. He dropped time in the 100 free and 50 free along with placing 5th in the 100 free for the 8 and under category.
Nicky Barrow-Had a phenomenal meet! He earned personal bests in the 200 free, 400 free and 50 free!
Brooklyn Batzer-1st timer at a Championship Meet!!! She had earned her first JO cut in the 50 free a couple of weeks ago and remained on her best time.
Davis Batzer-Made the 100 free cut for his age group but was able to still help the team with the boys 10 and under relay on Sunday! Davis did great and was really excited to be there!
Emily Blair-On the first day she was hoping to secure a spot for finals since she dropped 7.66 in the 200 free and the 50 fly but unfortunately she placed 9th (200 free) and 14th (50 fly). That did not sit well with her for the weekend so that added some additional motivation to come back for a second swim. And guys she sure did!!! She came back for Finals in the 200 IM and the 100 fly. She placed 6th in the 200 IM, 6th in the 400 free, and 5th in the 100 fly.
Makenna Brady-She was feeling a little off at the meet but she still came to support her team in the relays! She was off her best times in the 200 free, 100 free and the 50 free. Although she may have not been 100% I love seeing athletes step up and be there for their teammates.
Jude Cabral-This young man had a stacked weekend of events, finaling in each individual event along with competing in relays. He finaled in the 100 fly (5th place finish), 100 free (8th place finish), 200 backstroke (3rd place finish), 400 free (8th place finish), 100 back (4th place finish), 400 IM (2nd place finish) and 200 fly (2nd place finish). Way to go Jude!
Noah Cano-Swam the 50 free on Sunday and was off his best time. He has let me know he is going to be at practices more often and I am excited because he was only 8 tenths off his best time. This let's me know we have room for improvement!
Tanner Carollo-First timer at the Championship Meet! He did great in the boys 11-12 relays and I really appreciate him stepping up to help out the team. Each day he got more comfortable and dropped time in the relays he swam!!! Nice job Tanner!
Lila Chapman-We had a couple of athletes who were out sick for the 13-14 girls relays and she was ready to jump into the relays without hesitation! She came out and swam in 3 relays and dropped time in her individual event (50 free) dropping a little over 7 tenths.
Lance Donaldson-He secured a 50 free time during the SCY season and he came in with a new time of 30.00 for LCM. This meet has jump started his motivation to get back to training and accrue more cuts and be on the relays for the upcoming season!
Lukas Donaldson-Had an amazing meet! He is having a breakout season and this is just the beginning. Guys seriously watch out for this kid... He dropped time in each event, finaled in every event and earned his first Far Western Cut in the 50 free! He is only .06 off his first Sectionals cut!!! Nice Job Lukas!!!
Kingston Dubs-First timer at a Championship Meet! He swam the freestyle leg of the boys 10 and under relay and did well! We will be seeing more of this kid at future Championship Meets.
Tanner Ferguson-He dropped time in the 200 free (5 second drop) and 200 IM (almost 2 seconds). He placed 6th in the 800 free and 4th in the 1500 free for the 15-16 age group.
Julian Finger-Had a good weekend although he was feeling a little under the weather. He earned best times int he 200 free and 400 free.
Sofia Finger-She was sick for the first two days and was trying really hard to get healthy! And miraculously she was able to compete in the Saturday and Sunday relays for the 13-14 girls! She did well and I was happy to see her be able to participate at the meet!
Alyssa Fraga-Just came back from a vacation and still competed!!! She was off her best times in the 200 free, 100 free, 200 back, 400 free, 100 back and 50 free. Although she didn't get the success she was looking for she has in turned used this motivation for next season to clean some things up.
Keahi Holokahi-Had a great meet! She finaled in the 50 fly (4th place finish) and 1500 free (6th place) along with getting a slew of best times in other events! She had a big weekend and oh did I mention she earned her first far western cut in the 50 fly?!
Jayden Kifer-This is bittersweet as this was his last swim meet as an Age Group swimmer. He earned best times in the 100 fly and 200 IM. He also had an opportunity to come back for finals for the 400 IM(5th place finish), 200 IM (7th place) and the 200 fly (5th place finish). Although this is his last meet he will still be seen around our pool deck as a Coach on our Staff!
Emma Lewis-She just aged up to the 11-12 girls age group and barely missed the cuts. She had earned a spot to compete in the 11-12 girls relays as a relay only swimmer. She swam hard and really helped our team in the relays.
Jewely Lightfoot-She had a really great weekend of swimming! She dropped in the 200 free, 400 iM, 200 back, 400 free (placed 4th overall), 800 free (placed 4th overall) and 1500 free (placed 5th overall). Also on Saturday it was her toughest day she placed for finals in her 400 free and at the end of the day same the 800 free. She literally had maybe an hour to recover before she came back for finals in the 400 free. She is tough! She also finaled in the 200 fly and placed 6 overall in the 13-14 girls age group. She also got to be in the 13-14 girls relays so she had a pretty busy weekend. Good Job Jewely!
Layla Lightfoot-She was super happy to have secured time standards in the 11-12 girls age group in addition being in the relays. She competed in the 100 free, 400 free (dropped 25.33 seconds!), and the 50 free (.31 drop).
Raquel Lopez-This was her first time at a Championship and was a relay only swimmer! She did great and I look forward to seeing her at future Championship meets not only as a relay swimmer but having her own individual cuts.
Fabiola Maravilla-NEWBIE ALERT!!! This was her first time at a Championship Meet! She had gotten an individual cut in the 50 free and sat on her time but this was such a great experience for her! She also got to be in our 13-14 girls relays each day.
Ashton Martinez-He earned two more cuts towards Far Westerns at this meet!!! I am a very proud Coach! This kiddo in the last month and half as flipped a switch in his training and at swim meets! He had an awesome weekend of swimming securing best times in 200 breast, 200 IM (placing 5th overall), 50 fly (4th place finish), 400 free and 800 free (4th place finish with almost a 30 second drop). He also swam the 400 IM and placed 3rd overall for that event. He also helped out a lot in the 11-12 boys relays.
Kyle McAllister-This kid can race and is very fun to watch! He earned best times in the 100 fly (almost a 6 sec drop), 100 free (2 sec drop), 400 free (almost a 10 sec drop) and the 50 free (.49 sec drop). He also participated in our relays for the 15-18 boys.
Maddie Meyers-First timer at a Championship Meet!!! She was coming off of a vacation and she just earned these time cuts only a couple of weeks ago. She sat on her times but she helped out in our relays tremendously!!!
Piper Miller-She worked through the meet and did the best she could. She dropped time in the 100 free (.58 sec drop), 100 back (1.47 sec drop) and dropped in the 50 free (0.12 drop). We have some work to do but once she figures out how to race guys... She is going to tear it up!!! She also helped in relays!
Millie Molten-This is her second Championship Meet and she qualified for finals in several events for the first time along with getting a Far Western cut in the 200 free! She also dropped time in each event too! 200 free (6th place finish), 100 breast (dropped 2.27 sec), 100 free (6th place finish), 100 back (3.48 sec drop) and in the 50 free she dropped .77 sec. She also contributed in the relays in a big way for the 10 and under girls. Way to go Millie!
Emma Patrick-This 8 year old athlete is someone to watch because she is killing it in this age group! She competed in the 10 and under relays along with placing in her individual events! In the 100 free she placed 4th over, 50 back she placed 4th overall, 50 fly she placed 5th overall and in the 50 free she placed 4th overall. Good job Emma!
Kailey Ramos-First time individual qualifier for JO's! She earned a best time in the 100 free and sat on her time in the 50 free. She also helped tremendously in our girls 11-12 relays! Nice job!
Kurt Ramos-He just aged up and did very well in the new age group. He was hoping for success in his swims but he just secured the cuts a couple of weeks ago along with coming back for vacation. Although he may not have gotten the times he was looking for he is pretty fired up about wanting to be the top boys in the 9-10 age group so he is ready to work!
Jayren Rozario-First timer at a Championship Meet! He was a relay only swimmer and rocked it! Where the team needed him to be he was flexible and was just super excited to be at the meet with his team.
Kylan Smith-Had a pretty successful meet placing in his events and earning new best times. In the 200 free he earned a new best, dropped in the 400 IM, sat on his time in the 400 free (he was hoping to final but placed 11th), sat on his 100 back (this will be the stroke we work on going into the next season), 800 free placed 6th overall for the 15-16 boys age group, 1500 free placed 3rd overall and placed 5th in the 800 free.
Aiden Stevens-He helped in our boys 15-18 relays and was off his best times in his individual events. He has made it a point to come to practice more often and hopes to have better results next season.
Hayden Swain-She was a relay only swimmer and was so nervous about the meet but honored to be a part of the relays for the 13-14 girls age group! And guess what she did awesome!!!
Maxum Weber-This kiddo has been critical of himself all season long. He works hard and tries to do the sets as they are designed during practice and it worked in his favor. He dropped time in the 200 free (1.15 sec drop), on his best time in the 100 free, dropped in the 400 free (1.19), and was off his best in the 50 free. He helped in relay boys 15-18 relays and went a 1:02 high in the 400 free relay. It was fun watching this kid gain confidence throughout the meet.
Noah Zenobia-Earned his 50 back cut during SCY and earned a new best time in the 50 back for long course yards! Great Job Noah!
Amazing job athletes! Everyone did great and the future of our team is very promising!!! Keep up the good work and continue to train FAST!
