Women’s 200m IM
U.S. National Teamer Ariana Kukors, who was on hand competing for King Aquatic Club, set a meet record in the women’s 200m IM with a time of 2:11.07. Kukors, who was ranked fifth in the world in the 200m IM last year, left the rest of the field fighting for second. Taking that honor was Youth Teamer Maya DiRado, who finished second in 2:13.84, dropping about four seconds off her seed time. DiRado’s teammate, Melanie Margalis finished third in 2:17.72. Other Youth Team finalists included Melissa Franklin (4th, 2:17.82), and Meghan Hawthorn
DiRado’s time elevates her into the 20th position among all-time US performers in the event. Her performance currently ranks her 28th in the world this year.
“I tried to stay with Ariana as long as I could, DiRado said. “I’ve been feeling really good at this meet, but I didn’t expect 2:13 at all. I looked up, and I was like, ‘What?’ It was really surprising. I’ve been working on my breaststroke a lot this year, and that split improved by two seconds.

Meanwhile, Youth Teamer Madeline DiRado just missed a medal, finishing fourth in 4:47.14. Other Youth Team finalists included Noell Tarazona, who finished seventh in 4:51.03, and Jasmine Tosky, who finished eighth in 4:51.27.
