Important Things to Remember Before the Meet

  • What Time to Arrive?:  Ask your swimmers’ coach what time they want you to arrive at the meet.
  • CHECK IN at the Clerk of Course first thing! This table will be the under tents to the right of the main pool entry gates.
  • Warm-ups: Warm-ups start at 7:30 am. Swimmers will have access to the warmup pool throughout the meet, but should do their initial warm up after they check in.
  • Meet Timeline:  There will be a timeline posted at the Clerk of the Course table that will show the estimated start time of your swimmer's events.
  • Awards:  Awards will need to be picked up by your swimmer at the meet. We are not filing them in folders.
  • Volunteers: If you are volunteering, the volunteer check-in is located next to the Clerk of Course. Be sure to sign in for your shift so that we can give you credit. Any additional hours worked need to be emailed to Ashley at [email protected]
  • Most importantly - HAVE FUN!

If you have any questions, please reach out to your coaches beforehand so they can help navigate this weekend.

Thank you! GO NEPTUNES!

My First Swim Meet

Plan to arrive at least an hour before your swimmers’ first event, or sooner if requested by your coach.

What to do When You Get to the Meet:

  1. Check In: As soon as you arrive, check in with the Clerk of Course for all your events that day.
    1. Swimmers must circle each event they will be swimming.
    2. Swimmers may scratch events at check in as well.
    3. HELPFUL TIP: Many swimmers write their event # on their arm with a sharpie so they don’t forget what events they are swimming. Bring your own sharpie.
  2. Talk to your Coach: Check in with the coach to see when the coach wants your swimmer to do for warm up before the official meet start time.
  3. Warm Up: Be on time for warm ups. HELPFUL TIP: The lanes will be packed with swimmers from other teams and will be crowded. This is normal and the best advice is to keep moving and do not stop in the middle of the lane. Just keep swimming until you get to the end of the lane and can allow the faster swimmers to pass you.
  4. Event Postings: Check Heat and Lane assignments with your swimmer. As the meet progresses events are generally posted on walls or sandwich boards  (Also check the Meet Mobile app).
    1. Below is an example of a Heat Sheet where you will see the Event Number, Heat Number, and the swimmers with their assigned Lane:

  6. Talk to your Coach: After learning heat & lane assignments, check in with your coach at the coaches’ tent. This is the coach’s opportunity to remind the athlete of specific things to work on during the race.
    1. PARENT TIP: We ask that parents hang back so that the coaches can build a relationship with the swimmer based on trust and common goals.
  7. Warm Up: Swimmers should be swimming in the warm up pool ahead of their events to prepare. Coaches will give your swimmer a warm up to work on.
  8. RACE Time: Before the race, parents please stay calm. Make sure your swimmer gets out of the warmup pool in time for their heat.  Coaches will help younger swimmers get behind the block.
  9. Talk to your Coach: After your child swims, swimmers check in with their coach. The coach will talk with the athlete about technique that was done correctly and technique that needs improvement. If an athlete gets disqualified, the coach will communicate with the athlete on what was done wrong and how they are going to work on improving it in the future. This is another opportunity for the coach and athlete to build a strong relationship.
  10. Warm Down: Swimmer will warm down if asked to and then wait for their next event to be posted with heat and lane assignments.
  11. REPEAT and do it all over again.

MISSED A RACE? If your child misses an event, it is ok. It happens and we all learn from mistakes. The officials cannot stop the meet to accommodate every missed event, so the meet will go on and your child will still be able to swim in his/her next event.

We encourage you to let your child take the ropes.

GO NEPTUNE SWIMMING!
