Neptune Swimming is committed to creating a safe and healthy environment for our athletes. 

Mission Statement 

Neptune Swimming is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the sport of swimming and aquatic activities. Neptune Swimming provides a competitive program of swimming for Sonoma County residents or diverse backgrounds. Our vision is to inspire and enable our members to achieve their full potential in the sport of swimming and in other areas of their lives. We are committed to the improvement of our sport and strive to provide the highest standard of education and training available.
 
Neptune Swimming will operate under the auspices of USA Swimming to serve our athletes, coaches, clubs and affiliated members. USA Swimming is the national governing body for the sport of swimming. Neptune Swimming's top priority will continue to keep athletes safe and within a supportive environment.
No form of abuse, including child sexual abuse, has a place in our sport. USA Swimming has provided Neptune Swimming with its best practice guidelines that help define conduct.

Neptune Swimming Code of Conduct: Coaching Staff

  • At all times, adhere to USA Swimming’s rules and code of conduct. Coaches who exhibit sexist, racist, homophobic, or otherwise inappropriate behavior will be faced with consequences.
  • Set a good example of respect and sportsmanship for participants and fans to follow.
  • Adhere fully to the role and job description as outlined by the club and never use that role to gain favor for yourself or any individual swimmer.
  • Act and dress with professionalism and dignity in a manner suitable to his/her profession.
  • Respect officials and their judgment and abide by the rules of the event. Treat opposing coaches, participants, and spectators with respect.
  • Instruct participants in sportsmanship and demand that they display good sportsmanship.
  • Coach in a positive manner and do not use derogatory comments or abusive language.
  • Win with humility and lose with dignity.
  • Treat every athlete fairly, justly, impartially, intelligently, and with sensitivity.
  • Always place the well-being, health, and safety of swimmers above all other considerations, including developing performance.
  • Co-operate fully with other specialists (e.g. other coaches, officials, sport scientists, doctors, and physiotherapists) in the best interests of the swimmer.
  • Continue to seek and maintain their own professional development in all areas in relation to coaching and teaching children.
  • Always maintain a professional separation between coach and athlete.

Any complaints of a coach violating this code of conduct will be brought to the attention of his/her supervisor and/or the club’s Board of Directors

 

Training and Education - USA Swimming University

  • Athlete Protection Training -USA Swimming offers free online Athlete Protection Training required to be taken by all coaches, officials, board members and chaperones - open to anyone that would like to learn more.
  • Online Safe Sport Education for Parents - Safe Sport's online course for parents provides an introduction to Safe Sport, abuse, and reporting information. More information and access to the course can be found on the website. The course is called "Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport" - Parents guide to misconduct in the sport
