Neptune Alums Make Impact at Big West Conference
Eleven swimmers and divers with local roots made an impact at the Big West Conference Championships at Long Beach , February 17-20.
Reid Hartz(Montgomery ), Jim Fong (Maria Carrillo), Derek Baldwin (Casa Grande), and William LeBarge (Rancho Cotate) were all major contributors leading the UC Davis men to the conference title. Hartz placed 8th in 400IM, 6th in 1000 Free, and th in 1650 Free. Fong took 7th in the 200 Back, 8th in 100 Fly, and 4th in 100 Back. Baldwin placed 6th in 100 Free and 3rd in 100 Breast (narrowly missing an NCAA "B" cut). Le Barge placed 4th in the 1m Dive and 3rd in the 3m Dive event.
It was a sweep for UC Davis, which also won's the women's team title. Jennifer Meyer (Ursuline) was a difference maker by winning the conference title in the 1m Dive and took 2nd in the 3m Dive for UCD.
Other locals in action included Hank Weinberger and Russell Deghi (Analy, Cal St Northridge); Max Horrell (Analy, UC Santa Barabara); Tyler Main (Montgomery, Cal Poly SLO), Walter Gault (Petaluma, CA, SRJC, UC Santa Barbara), and Tyler Hannis (Santa Rosa HS, SRJC, University of Pacific).
Hartz, Fong, Baldwin, Main, Gault, and Hannis are all Neptune Swimming alumni.
