WELCOME BACK!!

Dan Greaves

Dear Neptune Swimming families,

We’d like to welcome you all back for another year of Neptune Swimming!  Every member of our swim family is crucial to our continued success building the best aquatics organization in Northern California. Last season was a major success for many reasons (huge improvements in the pool, team hosting of more meets & increased training of our wonderful volunteers) and we want to say THANK YOU and WE APPRECIATE YOU!!

We are sad to see coaches Charlie & Jake leave our team to pursue other endeavors.  Charlie is an intern at MIlsaps College in Mississippi working towards being an athletic team trainer.  Jake is enrolled at the University of California at Santa Cruz to continue his undergrad degree.  We are so thankful for everything they brought to the team and they will be missed greatly.  Our hope is they return to us in the future.

Please open your hearts to our new coach Austin Stevenson.  He comes to us by way of Sacramento & Long Beach.  Austin grew up a competitive swimmer on the Sierra Marlins Swim Team before finding water polo and going on to be a 4 year starter at Long Beach State in water polo earning many accolades.  We are so happy and excited to add Austin to our coaching staff.  Austin will take over our Bronze 1 group this fall.  We will gradually add more opportunities to his coaching plate over the course of this next season.

Our goals on the dry side for the upcoming season are to:

  1. Continue our successful volunteers training program to assist us in hosting “higher level meets” (ie: Pacific Swim Age Group Champs, Far Westerns, USA Swimming Sectionals, etc).  This will require more parents stepping up to learn host meet computer data entry & Omega timing system operating)

    1. With more volunteers helping run these systems, we can run a double sided meet, thus increasing number of athletes participating in the meets, while completing a bigger meet in less time

    2. With more volunteers helping run these systems, we can avoid “Volunteer burnout”

  2. Continue recruiting / training enthusiastic & passionate coaches to help with year round team, swim schools and substitute coaches

  3. Schedule & coordinate more team building activities outside of the water.

Our goals on the wet side are to:

  1. Educate our members on the importance of dryland which we hope will increase athlete  participation.

  2. Build on the success of last season with regards to meet participation, achieve higher level meet time standards and continue challenging the athletes to work smarter, push themselves past the point they believe is their limit and celebrate the success when they come.

  3. Continue focusing on great technique and helping each athlete find their reasons for swimming.  Answering the question “Why do I swim” is the most important part of this entire journey.
