Ride the wave with us - join the Summerville Family YMCA Swim Team! The Tidalwaves are a year-round swim team serving swimmers ages 4-18 who live in Summerville, North Charleston, Ladson, Goose Creek, Hanahan, Charleston and other areas of Dorchester, Berkley and Colleton County, SC. We participates in SC USA swimming and the Carolina YMCA Swim League. Our year-round season runs from August 18-mid March. Competitive swimming gives swimmers the opportunity to enhance their technical skill and strengthen their aerobic fitness in a training regime that stresses discipline and constant personal improvement. Competitions give swimmers the experience to put those strengths and skills to use in races, across a wide range of events and distances, and to experiment with different strategies and situational pressures. Personal performance in these situations, and the lessons learned, are more important than the medals won. Stress management, team dynamics, work ethic and dedication are all life skills that competitive swimmers will take with them beyond the pool. We travel to other areas/states to attend YMCA and USA meets; some meets are three days long. Not ready to commit to a full season? You may register for just our conditioning swim team. 

Summerville Family YMCA are the proud grant recipients which was awarded from USA Swimming Foundation to provide free water safety swimming lessons for children in the Low-Country in 2023 and 2024. Did you know that South Carolina ranks in the top 15 (#9) in drowning deaths in the US? We are proud to announce that we have taught over 575 children how to be safe around water from Summerville, Ladson, North Charleston, Goose Creek, St. George, Walterboro and other areas of Dorchester, Colleton and Berkeley counties since July 2023.
