Summerville Family YMCA and the Tidalwaves are proud to have partnered with USA Swimming and USA Swimming Foundation as an authorized swim lesson provider. In July of 2023 we launched Splash Into Safety partnering with Colleton County, Dorchester County and Summerville Medical to provide access to water safety to children who had never had a lesson, together we taught over 375 children how to be safe around water.

Thanks to a generous grant from USA Swimming Foundation we were able to proudly offer in November 2023 free water safety lessons at Summerville Family YMCA. Our efforts in 2023, combined with our partners at Colleton County Parks & Rec, Dorchester County Parks & Rec and Summerville Medical we taught 711 children and parents how to be safe around water and the necesary skills to save thier lives. Our goal is to expand our program in 2024 to reach more than 1,000 familes.

In January, we began offering our Water Watcher Program; a program designed to encourage individuals to commit to keeping children in and around water safe, plus teach the lifesaving skill of CPR to adults and parents.

USA Swimming and the USA Swimming Foundation are committed to supporting learn-to-swim programs in providing opportunities and experiences for children across the country to learn the lifesaving skill of swimming, and help parents to identify swim lesson providers who meet or exceed the industry best practices. To distinguish these providers, we designate them as part of USA Swimming’s Swim Lesson Provider Network. Designated swim lesson providers go above and beyond to provide a safe environment and facility by using trained and certified instructors and lifeguards, low student to teacher ratios, and proven techniques and curricula to ensure a quality learning experience for every child.

YMCA swim lessons emphasize water safety and skill development in a safe environment! We offer group swim lessons and private swim lessons so you can find a class that best fits your needs. Few things are more inviting than a bright blue, sparkling pool, and the Y has plenty of them ready for year-round use! Whether you’re looking for basic lessons, a competitive swimmer who wants to improve their stroke, or just working to stay fit and socially connected, the Y has a pool, program, or lesson for you.
