Safe Sport Training

USA Swimming offers free online training for coaches, officials, board members, chaperones, volunteers, parents and athletes.  The training is designed to assist clubs in completing the Training and Education requirement of the Safe Sport Club Recognition program.  By creating training programs for all involved in working with minor athletes, USA Swimming and the clubs that participate in these programs are continuously working towards the commitment to foster a fun, healthy and safe environment for its members.

Coaches/Staff

USA Swimming offers free training and education for coaches.  It is a requirement of our staff that they take and be certified as a non-athlete member of USA Swimming.  Taking part in this training regarding abuse prevention and reporting is equally important as adhering to USA Swimming policies to provide a safe environment for your athlete.  Click here to learn more about the training that is required of our coaching staff. 

Parents

Through the USA Swimming University, parents are given the opportunity to receive training in specific roles as well as training that is critical in protecting children from sexual abuse. The Parents Guide to Misconduct In Sport provides comprehensive training including how offenders operate, how recognize and respond to violations, myths and facts about child sexual abuse and the USA Swimming's Athlete Protection Policies and Procedures.

Athletes

While training is available for athletes ages 5 and up, it is our recommendation that all of our swimmers ages 12+ participate in the Safesport for Youth Athletes (ages 13+).  The course will not only cover safe practices and abuse prevention/recognition but also cover information regarding bullying, hazing prevention and procedures that your athlete should take when an incident has happened that needs to be reported.  If you so desire, you can access the Safesport for Kids training here which will cover teaching them the difference between discipline and abuse.
