Coaching Staff

Coach Art Anthony is the CEO of the East Coast Aquatic Team. Art has a vast exposure and background that began in 1993 and has continued through today. Coach Art has been involved with, organized, marketed, and ran: Swim lessons, stroke clinics, swim camps, summer leagues, winter leagues, high school, masters programs, and USA swimming. Coach Art has been coaching USA swimmers since 2002 and is proud to have worked with so many great individuals.
Coach Art did his undergraduate work at James Madison University where he graduated with a BBA in Computer information Systems. He received his MBA from Averett University. Coach Art is active in the community and in Virginia swimming where he sits on several committees.
Coach Art primarily works with our 12 and under program and swimmers new to the sport teaching them fundamentals, developing technique and muscle memory, developing training habits and work ethic, and instilling a love for the sport of swimming. Eric rejoins ECAT with a wealth of swimming and coaching experiences that span from the states of Florida, Ohio, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Before coaching, Eric swam competitively for the Cincinnati Marlins starting at the age of 7. He attended Ashland University, where he competed in Division II NCAA’s and was a 4-time All-American. As a coach, Eric has found success at almost every level: Summer Club: 18 seasons, 13 as Head Coach High School: 7 seasons, 6 as Head Coach USA Swimming: 19 years, 3 as Head Coach, 3 as Head Age Group Coach, 12 as Lead Senior Coach Coached Swimmer Achievements: Age Group Champs, Senior Champs, NSCA, Sectionals, Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals, Olympic Trials, College Scholarships. Additional information: Eric is the Assistant Principal at Malibu Elementary School in Virginia Beach. He runs a middle school swim league for the area Catholic Schools. And he is the father of two girls that swim for ECAT! Eric is super-excited to work with ECAT to build upon the established family culture where kids come to work together to become better swimmers and people.
Coach Rick is excited to join the coaching staff of ECAT! Rick has been coaching swimming since 2014. After two years of summer league, he added club coaching in 2016 with a small local team, initially working with the development level and younger age group swimmers. Later, he started working with age group and senior swimmers. In 2018 he moved to a large club where he was the practice site lead at two practice facilities. Rick coached all levels of athletes at these sites, from Novice to Seniors. His swimmers have achieved success at IMX Challenge, Age Group championships, Senior Championship, and Sectionals. Several of his swimmers are swimming at the collegiate level, either for their college team, or for the school club team. Rick has coached club swimming in the Portsmouth and Western Branch areas exclusively, and has seen a majority of the ECAT swimmers grow over the last few years. Prior to coaching swimming, he had coached girls varsity soccer, and boys JV basketball. Rick is from Southern California where he played water polo and swam competitively for over 10 years. He is a retired Naval Officer and a retired Middle School Teacher. Rick is a level 3 member of the American Swimming Coaches Association. Rick is the proud father of twins, Addison is attending Tidewater Community College, where she is working towards a physical therapy assistant certification. Evan attends, and swims, at the University of Mary Washington.
Margueritte learned to swim in the Old Downtown Portsmouth YMCA at the age of 2. She started swimming competitively at the age of 5. She grew up splitting time living between the USA and France. After graduating she decided to focus on her career and family, but never forgot about the love of swimming. As a young adult during her summers in France you would always find her working at the pool coaching. Margueritte has always loved teaching and coaching children. She has three children of her own and finds this even more rewarding watching them grow and learn in the pool. She has coached USA swimming since 2009. Prior to last she coached YMCA swim team. She has also coached High School Swimming for Nansemond Suffolk Academy. She is has been the Head Coach for Marlin Club swim team for the past 6 summers. She currently holds a level 2 ASCA certification and USA swimming certification. She looks forward to working with each and every child that comes to the pool.
Betsy Beaman is a graduate of Nansemond Suffolk Academy and Virginia Tech (B.S. in Human Development , and M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction). Growing up, Betsy competed with the Old Dominion Aquatic Club, Nansemond Suffolk Academy, and The Marlin Club Swim Team in Chesapeake, Virginia. Betsy served as an Assistant Coach of the Marlin Club Swim Team from 2017 to 2018, and as Head Coach from 2002 to 2005. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Betsy taught first grade for 7 years at Cedar Road Elementary School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Betsy and her husband Rob have twin 5 year-old-girls (Katie Lee and Grace) who compete with ECAT.
