SMAC Meet Highlights

Richmond, VA Oct 2-3, 2021

SMAC (Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club) brought 52 swimmers to the SWIM RVA Blastoff Meet in Richmond October 2-3.  SMAC, which has competed out of Waynesboro since 1958, has expanded its Team to include Crozet and currently has training facilities in both locations.

The 52 swimmers who attended the meet swam a total of 265 races.  SMAC had 72% best times at the meet.  This is phenomenal considering it was the first meet of the season after a lengthy summer break.  The swimmers posting at least 4 best times were: Henry Bowman (6 best times), Madeleine Bowman (4), Xavier Fish (6), Quinn He (7), Lulu Hitt (6), Vivi Hitt (7), Liliana Mandujano (4), Liam McMahon (5), McKenzie McWhorter (5), Dawson Melton (4), Julia Miller (8), Aisy Neal (7), Sammy Nicholson (7), Emma Nylander (4), Jake Nylander (4), Tommy Rockwell (6), Shayla Sterner (5), Max Tungate (4), Sophie Wang (7), and Johnny Zevgolis (4).   Julia is one of the toughest members of our Team and her hard work is showing in the pool as she was the only swimmer with 8 best times.

We had some amazing time drops at the meet, way too many to name them all, but there were 21 races where we dropped over 10%.  The swimmers with greater than a 10% drop in a race were:

Ethan Apicella 11-12 50 Free    15% and 11-12 100 Free 20%, Xavier    Fish 11-12 200 Free 11%, Madeline Hartley 11-12 50 Breast 11% and 11-12 100 Back 17%,  Quinn He    12 & Under 500 Free 11%, 11-12 50 Free 14%, 11-12 50 Breast 11%, 11-12 200 Free 17%, 12 & Under 200 Breast 12%, 11-12 100 Breast 16%, and 11-12 100 Free 14%, Vivi Hitt 10 & Under 50 Free 12%, 10 & Under 200 IM 17%, 10 & Under 100 Breast 14%, 10 & Under 100 Free 14% and 10 & Under 100 IM 11%,  Julia Miller 15 & Over 100 Fly 11%, Reese Mundie 11-12 50 Free 16%,  Tommy Rockwell 11-12 100 Fly 10%, and Sophie Wang 11-12 100 Back 13%.

Having 21-time improvements greater than 10% is fantastic.  Congratulations to all these swimmers.

SMAC had 7 different swimmers finish in the top 4 in their events, the swimmers were

Henry Bowman 12 & Under 500 Free 4th place,  Quinn He 12 & Under 200 Breast 4th, Lulu Hitt 12 & Under 400 IM 4, 11-12 50 Breast 4 and 12 & Under 500 Free 4, Aisy Neal 12 & Under 400 IM 2 and 12 & Under 500 Free 2, Jacob Nylander 13-14 100 Fly 3,  Sophie Wang 11-12 100 IM 1, 11-12 50 Back    2, 11-12 100 Back 4, and 12 & Under 200 Breast 4, Sterling Wissler 13-14 100 Fly 2, 13-14 100 Free 3, 13-14 200 Free 3, 13-14 200 Fly 3, 13-14 200 IM 4 and 13-14 50 Free 4.
