Mini-Marlin Swim Lessons

Welcome to SMAC Mini-Marlin Swim Lesson Online Registration. Our program which takes place at Augusta Health Fitness Center in Fishersville, starts with New to the Pool and goes through Level 3.  The program is designed for swimmers not yet comfortable in the water up to swimmers learning the basics of all 4 competitive swim strokes.  We also offer private lessons for those swimmers who do better with one on one teaching.

Program Descriptions

New to the Pool is designed for children who have never formally taken swim classes before and/or are not comfortable in the water. Skills that are covered include water safety, floating, putting their faces in the water and blowing bubbles, kicking with a kickboard, and beginning to use arms. A child is ready to leave New to the pool when they are able to put their face in the water and cover short distances independently.

Level 1 is designed to begin teaching children to swim freestyle and backstroke independently. Skills that are introduced include floating, treading water, swimming with their face in the water, breathing to the side, kicking with and without a kickboard, and pulling with their arms. A child is ready to leave Level 1 when they are able to swim mid-distances (1/3-1/2 length of the pool) independently with their face in the water.

Level 2 is designed to bridge the gap between swimming a partial length of the pool and completing the length of the pool. Children will learn the technique and practice the endurance needed to do so. Children will be challenges to float, tread, and swim longer, as well as improve technique in freestyle and backstroke.

Level 3 is a bridge between swim lessons and SMAC's Red/Blue groups. Children will continute to hone Level 2 skills while being introduced to butterfly and breaststroke. Other aspects of lap/competetive swimming will be covered, including streamline, underwaters, basic sets/intervals, among other things, based on the children's interest.
