Lorena Caballero Team Manager / Head Coach

Coach Lorena was born and raised in Peru, where she swam competitively for 8 years.  She moved to the United States in 1990 to attend American University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. 

Coach Lorena has been involved with the Prince William Swim Club for the past 20 years, first as a parent and then as a coach.  She joined the coaching staff in September of 2004 and started coaching the junior group.  Since then she has coached basically every group.  She coached the Adv. Pre-Senior for 5 years, before becoming the Head Coach and coach of the Senior group.  

2022-2023 season was her last season as Head Coach and Senior coach; however, she remains involved with the team as Team Manager.  

Coach Lorena has two children.  Rafael (“Raffo”) who is 27 and graduated from VA Tech with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering, working for Northrop Grumman.  He swam with the team for 12 years. She also has a daughter, Isabella, who is 21 years old and a junior at VA Tech.  She is working on her Animal Science Degree with the goal to continue onto Veterinary School.

Two very proud moments for Coach Lorena were when she became a US citizen in March of 2013 and when she beat Stage One Breast Cancer in 2018.

Jonathan Parker Lead Coach

Coach Jonathan has been swimming since he was 11.  He was a summer league swimmer swimming for the Lakeridge Lancers for 8 years.  He also swam for Hylton HS where he made the regional team 3 out of his 4 years.  He was recruited by Wingate University Varsity team where he specialized in sprints.  He also had the opportunity to be a part of the conference champion team in 2011.  He then transferred to James Madison University. He became a member of the club swim team for 4 years participating in Club Nationals every year in Atlanta, Georgia.  

He graduated JMU with a degree in Sports and Recreation Management and a minor in Business. Coach Jonathan also earned a Master’s Degree from Concordia University Chicago in Sports Leadership. He is currently working on completing his second master’s degree from Liberty University in secondary education concentrating in PE and Health.

Coach Jonathan will be entering his second season as the Lead Coach with the Amberjax Senior Group.  He has been a part of this family going into his ninth year.  He is excited for the opportunity as the Lead Coach and is looking forward to working with Coach Greg to coach the Seniors.  He will also be entering his eighth season coaching APS/PS group where he will be working with our new coach, Coach Grace. 

He is an ASCA Level 2 certified coach. He hopes to start his Level 3 certification when he gets a break in the action.  Coach Jonathan has also been coaching with the Lakeridge Lancers just finishing his 15th season as a coach, but 20 or 21 years on the team.  He also is certified as a Level 2 Master's Coach.  He is hoping to get back in the water himself to start his own training again.  

 

 

Greg Giovinazzo Senior Coach

Coach Greg brings over 20 years of experience in the sport swimming to the PWSC Amberjax.  Coach Greg swam collegiately at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Oneonta where he served as the captain of the Men’s Swimming and Diving Program. He has extensive experience working with swimmers of all ability levels, helping challenge them to achieve their goals while also emphasizing the importance of having fun and enjoying the sport.  He is looking forward to providing a fun filled experience for the swimmers and their families this season.

Coach Greg has coached with the Amberjax for the past ten years.  This season he will be coaching the Senior group along Coach Jon.  He is also the Head Coach for the Southbridge Seals Summer Swim Team and Assistant Head Coach for Forest Park HS Swim team.

Kathy Meltzer Adv. Junior Coach (PWCSAC)

Coach Kathy is excited to start her tenth year coaching club swimming and ninth coaching for Amberjax. She loves to help Advanced Juniors improve as swimmers and individuals. Before coaching with Amberjax she began her USA Swim coaching career with the Potomac Marlins. Prior to that she led the Mini-Makos as head coach on a summer team for eleven years.

Coach Kathy is a level II ASCA certified coach, and is a WSI Instructor. Coach Kathy teaches the Water Safety Swim program and Deck Coordinates at Colgan H.S. and is a PWCS Substitute teacher with a Masters in Elementary Ed K-8, in addition to coaching the Advanced Junior Amberax group at Colgan.

Although she never competitively swam as a kid, she has been swimming since she was four years old and loves being in and around water as much as possible. In high school she took to seeing how many laps she could swim in her hometown pool and really came to love distance swimming for fitness, often swimming 2 or three miles at a time for a workout. Later, after college she swam for masters programs and improved her strokes. Since moving from Arizona in 2003, she resides in Manassas with her husband Rob, 4 kids, 2 dogs,a cat, 2 birds and a lizard and enjoys swimming, pilates, yoga, walk/runs with the dogs, the beach, and skiing. Any left over time is being the CEO of the Meltzer household.

Joseph Costello Pre-senior Coach

Coach Joey was born and raised in Northern Virginia.  Swimming has been a lifelong sport for him.  He swam for Westridge Waves Swim Team where he first met Coach Lorena.  He also swam competitively for several years with OCCS and with Saint John High School, where he is now the Head Coach.

Coach Joey joined the Amberjax in 2019 and loves the team’s tight nit family environment.  He is thrilled to be part of a team that has fun, is community oriented and allows swimmers to grow in character and friendship on and off the pool deck.

He is currently studying to finish a Masters degree in Theology from C.D.U. (Catholic Distance University).

Andrew Lingafelt Junior Coach (PWCSAC)

Coach Andrew was born and raised in Manassas, Virginia and has been swimming/coaching for a little over 10 years now. He swam competitively for the Meadowbrook Makos, Stealth, Amberjax, and Colgan Swim Team. In addition to swimming, he has also been a coach for the Meadowbrook Makos summer team for 7 years now.  He started with the minis programs, then became Juniior Assistant coach and the past three years he has been the Assistant Head Coach.  Outside of competitive swim, he also teaches swim lessons at the Prince William County aquatics Center, from preschoolers to adults.

He is entering his senior year at George Mason University where he is majoring in Supply Chain Management.

Abby McGrael Junior and Adv. Junior Coach

Coach Abby has been swimming year round since she was 6 years old and on Amberjax since she was 11 years old. This will be Coach Abbys' 3rd year coaching the Amberjax. In addition to coaching Amberjax, Coach Abby is the assistant head coach of the Wellington Dolphins and an instructor at the Prince William Aqautics Center.

Coach Abby  is a sophomore at George Mason University where she is studying Therapeutic Recreation. Coach Abby is excited to have another great season with the Amberjax helping her swimmers grow in confidence and skill!  This year in additioin of coaching the Junior group at the Aquatic Center at Colgan, she will also be coaching the Adv. Junior at Dale City Rec Center.

Elizabeth Fee Junior Coach (DCRC)

Coach Liz has been in love with swimming since the day her brother put her in the pool at age 3. She joined her first Northern Virginia Swim League swim team at the age of 5 and took it to the next level swimming for club teams from the age of 8 all the way through her high school. Coach Liz swam for her high school swim team at Robert E. Lee in Springfield, until a knee injury sidelined her during her senior season. She helped her head coach, assisting on the side of the pool and realized she truly enjoyed the coaching aspect of the sport. She began her coaching career in college as a summer swim coach and continued for the next 13 years.

Coach Liz has a background in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Montessori classrooms. She currently resides in the Woodbridge area with her husband, daughter (also a swimmer) and dog. She is excited to be diving back into the world of swim coaching with the Amberjax team!
