Pre-Competitive Learn to Swim – PC:

Rocket Aquatic's (RA) Pre-Competitive program is geared toward the development and preparation of swimmers ages 4-8 for the competitive swim team. The program includes 3 highly structured levels of instruction which are executed by RA’s Senior Team members. Pre-Comp is overseen by the Head Age Group Coach and the Pre-Competitive Program Supervisor. As a swimmer progresses through each group, he/she will refine his/her technique in each of the 4 competitive swimming strokes and will receive training in various competitive swimming skills (racing starts, turns, and finishes). Upon successful completion of the final level of PreComp, Gold, swimmers will be invited to join Rocket Aquatics.

*For information about joining our pre-comp program, please contact Coach Dave at [email protected]  Please include your swimmer's name, age, and details about previous lesson/experience (e.g., levels completed in other lesson programs, comfort/independence in water, strokes the swimmer is able to perform).

Descriptions of levels:

Bronze PreComp is the first of 3 highly structured groups geared toward preparation of young swimmers for competitive swimming. Prerequisites to this group include previous experience/exposure to swimming freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke. Swimmers must not be afraid of the water and be willing to get into the water on their own with minimal instructor assistance. Swimmers in this group are working to refine their freestyle and backstroke technique in order to efficiently complete 25 yards of each stroke when they join the swim team. This group introduces competitive swimming skills such as appropriate streamline push-offs, proper body position for swimming freestyle and backstroke as well as rotary breathing technique.

Silver PreComp is the second of 3 highly structured groups geared toward preparation of young swimmers for competitive swimming. Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain basic stroke technique for freestyle and backstroke for 10 yards. Swimmers in this group continue to refine their freestyle and backstroke to build endurance in order to efficiently complete 25 yards of each stroke when they join the team. Breastroke and Butterfly skills are introduced in this level.

Gold PreComp is the third of 3 highly structured groups geared toward preparation of young swimmers for competitive swimming. Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain proper freestyle and backstroke technique for 15 yards and the demonstration of basic breaststroke technique and butterfly, dolphin kick. Swimmers in this group increase their endurance in freestyle and backstroke in order to complete 25 yards of each stroke while maintaining proper stroke technique and work to refine breaststroke technique to ensure legal execution of the breaststroke kick. This group is introduced to backstroke/breaststroke/butterfly finishes,  racing starts (dives), flip turns and backstroke finishes.
