Overview:
This group focuses on personal water safety and achieving basic swimming competency through fundamental skills. Key change: This group will now run in three-month rotations (March–May and August–October). Evaluations will be conducted at the end of each term to assist in transitioning swimmers to the next group.
Minimum Placement Requirements:
- Swimmer can float independently without support.
- Swimmers can jump into the water and return to the wall unassisted.
- Swimmers can tread water independently for at least ten seconds.
Goals:
- Develop a foundational understanding of freestyle and backstroke.
- Perform flutter kicks on both front and back.
- Swim a full lap of freestyle (25 yards) unassisted, using either bilateral breathing or rolling onto the back to breathe.
- Swim a full lap of backstroke (25 yards) unassisted and finish safely.
- May begin learning dolphin kicks.
White Mini Marlins
Practice Duration: 60 minutes
Practice Frequency: 3 times per week
Overview:
Designed for our youngest competitive swimmers, this group focuses on mastering the fundamentals of freestyle and backstroke while fostering a love for the sport. Emphasis is placed on proper technique, starts, turns, and building endurance in a fun and supportive environment.
Minimum Placement Requirements:
- Swimmer can flutter kick on both front and back.
- Swimmer can swim a full lap of freestyle (25 yards) unassisted, using either bilateral breathing or rolling onto the back to breathe.
Goals:
- Swim a full lap of freestyle (25 yards) unassisted with consistent bilateral breathing or rolling onto the back to breathe.
- Swim a full lap of backstroke (25 yards) unassisted and finish safely.
- Maintain proper flutter kick on both front and back.
- Begin learning and developing additional kicks or strokes, though not necessarily using them consistently.
- Swim multiple laps of freestyle with independent and consistent side breathing.
- Swim multiple laps of backstroke independently and consistently.
- Demonstrate proficiency in breaststroke and dolphin kick on their front.
- Perform a dive from a kneeling position on the pool deck or starting block.
- Have foundational knowledge of breaststroke and butterfly.
Blue Marlins
Practice Duration: 60 minutes
Practice Frequency: 3 times per week
Overview:
The Blue Marlins group is for swimmers who can independently swim freestyle and backstroke but are still working toward legal breaststroke and butterfly. This group focuses on refining technique, improving endurance, and developing race strategies.
Minimum Placement Requirements:
- Swimmer has the technical ability to complete legal 50-yard freestyle and backstroke.
- Swimmers can dive safely from the starting block.
- Swimmer understands proper turns and transitions at the wall.
- Swimmer has started using interval-based training on a semi-regular basis.
Goals:
- Build endurance and improve overall technique.
- Continue developing stroke mechanics and race strategies.
- Prepare for the transition to the Silver Group by meeting its placement requirements.
Silver
Attendance Commitment: 80% + Regularly Attends Meets - NO Weekly Morning Practices
Practice Duration: 120 minutes
Overview:
The Silver group is designed for swimmers looking to expand their knowledge of all four competitive strokes. Training introduces race strategies, advanced stroke mechanics, and race-pace endurance while maintaining a strong emphasis on technique. Swimmers in this group set goals toward competing in championship meets such as FLAGS and/or Senior Champs.
Minimum Placement Requirements:
- At least one 12 & Under "BB" Time Standard.
- Successful completion of the following test set:
- 8 x 100 Freestyle on 1:40
- 6 x 100 Kick on 2:15
- 4 x 100 IM on 2:10
Goals:
- Qualify for FLAGS or Senior Champs.
- Continue refining stroke technique while increasing training volume and intensity.
- Develop race strategies for high-level competition.
Gold I & Gold Elite
Practice Duration: 120 minutes
Overview:
Gold I and Gold Elite swimmers demonstrate discipline, dedication, and a strong work ethic, fully committing to their training and continuous improvement. These swimmers embrace challenges, enjoy the process of training and competition, and strive for excellence in both their athletic and personal pursuits.
This group is designed for highly competitive high school-aged swimmers aiming to compete at state and national-level swim meets. Swimmers are divided into two groups—Gold I and Gold Elite—based on training etiquette, commitment level, swim meet performance, and overall development.
Gold I:
Attendance Commitment: 80% + Regularly Attends Meets
Gold I is ideal for high school swimmers who want to stay in shape year-round while primarily focusing on technique. Swimmers in this group experience an introduction to increased volume and intensity, preparing them for area and state-level competition.
Expectations:
- 80% practice attendance requirement.
- Participation in recommended meets is highly encouraged and some meets will be required as specified by your coach.
- Training closely alongside the Gold Elite team.
- Serves as a stepping stone to Gold Elite, making it an excellent fit for later-developing athletes.
Gold Elite:
Attendance Commitment: 90-100% + Attends ALL Recommended Meets + Minimum of 2 morning practices required
Gold Elite is designed for swimmers at the Senior State level or those actively working toward it. Training is structured to prepare swimmers for state and regional-level competitions, emphasizing advanced technique, intensity, and volume.
Expectations:
- 90-100% practice attendance requirement.
- Participation in all required meets is mandatory.
- Morning practices are offered twice a week + Saturday mornings.
- Swimmers are expected to push their limits, embrace discomfort, and take pride in their commitment to excellence.
Goals:
- Qualify for Sectionals and Futures competitions.
- Continue refining race strategies and training methodologies to achieve peak performance.
