VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

(Lane) Timer: Operates stopwatch, presses timing system plunger (at finish), validates swimmer’s name/event/lane, writes both lane’s stopwatch times on the swimmers time card, and hands completed sheets to “Runner”. Attend Timers meeting prior to start of meet.(Experience needed/Prerequisites: NONE)

Runner: Collects DQ slips from officials after each race; collects completed time sheets from the Timers and runs them to the Scorer’s table (Prerequisites: NONE)

Seating Coordinator: Organizes them into the proper lanes in order of the events & gets them behind the blocks before each race (Prerequisites: ability to read a heat sheet, patience, and a voice of “authority”)

Staging (On deck & Gymnasium): Work closely with Seating volunteers to locate & organize swimmers to get to the on-deck seating area. (Prerequesites: ability to read heat sheet, able to walk & back & forth from gym to pool deck & project voice loudly)

Concessions: HOME MEETS ONLY: Sell food at the concessions stand. Involves setting up &/or tear-down of tables & clean up of concession area. (Prerequisites: NONE)

Set Up/Tear Down: HOME MEETS ONLY: Arrives a little early to set up equipment OR stays after meet ends to put equipment away, hauls food/ice to concession stand, other duties as assigned (Prerequisites: light to heavy lifting, organizational skills)

Meet Manager (Computer) Operator: Sets up and Scores the Meet in the Meet Manager software on the SCAY laptop. The operator works closely with the coach to put the swimmers into the events they will be swimming, order the events and number of heats for each event, prints out the heat sheets and results, and works with the Colorado System Operator (and runners/timers) to obtain race results. This position requires on- and off-the-job training. This person usually needs some assistance while the meet is going on to make sure the times are accurate. This person can be the Administrative Official (AO) if they are certified as an AO by the YMCA or USA Swimming.

Daktronics (Timing) System Operator: HOME MEETS ONLY: Operates the Colorado Timing System. Makes sure the pads and plungers are registering touches, and monitors races for proper timing and results.
Meet Officials (Training and certification REQUIRED):

Referee: Judges all aspects of the meet. Runs officials meeting prior to meet start (Level 2 official)

Administrative Official: Works at Scorer's Table; judges order of finish and timing issues (Level 2 official or AO certification)

Stroke and Turn Judges: Makes sure swimmers (relays) adhere to the rules for each event/stroke. Disqualifies swimmers (relays) who perform an infraction (Level 1 official)

Starter: Starts each race with the lighted buzzer (Level 2 official)
