SCAY Makes A Splash At Mid Atlantic LC Silver Championships

The SCAY team of Daniel Fernandez-Murillo, Lucia Fernandez-Murillo, Mariano Fernandez-Murillo, Tris Harvey, Odin Leonard, Eli Mercier, Lucas Mercier, and Sopha Werle made a splash at Mid Atlantic Silver LC Championships.

In the 10-and-under events, Daniel dropped time in all four of his events. He placed 8th overall in the 100 back in a time of 1:48.95, dropping 8.08 seconds! He dropped 2.39 seconds to place 9th overall in the 50 back with a time of 47.83. He achieved personal bests in both the 50 meter fly (45.36) and the 50 meter breast (52.11), placing 4th and 2nd, respectively. Tris Harvey also swam personal bests in the 50 meter fly, 100m fly, and 50m free. She raced to 1st place overall in the 50 fly with a time of 39.93. Tris placed second in both the 50 free (37.25) and 100 fly (1:37.58) in hard-fought races.

 

In the 11-12 events, Mariano Fernandez-Murillo had a phenomenal meet, placing 3rd in the high point category in his age group. Mariano placed 2nd overall in the 200m breast in a time of 3:26.26, dropping over 10 seconds. He placed 3rd in the 50 free in a new personal best of 32.29. Fernandez-Murillo dropped over 10 seconds from his personal best to place 1st in the 100m fly in a time of 1:21.16 and over 12 seconds in the 200m IM to win the event in a time of 2:51.35. Mariano also placed 4th in the 100 free (1:09.56), 2nd in the 50 breast (43.45), 1st in the 200m back (2:57.61), and 2nd in the 50m fly (35.51).

In the 13-14 events, Odin Leonard dropped over 8 seconds to place 1st overall in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:47.21. He placed 7th overall in the 200IM with a huge time drop from his previous best, finishing in 2:37.32.  Leonard also placed 2nd in the 100 breast (1:18.75) and 7th in the 200 free (2:21.89). Lucia Fernandez-Murillo dropped over 4 seconds in the 100m backstroke to place 4th overall in a time of 1:17.83. She also placed 3rd in the 200m back (2:44.75). Sopha Werle, battling illness, swam her way to two personal bests. She dropped over 15 seconds in the 400m free to place 5th with a time of 5:14.54. She placed 8th overall in the 200IM (2:55.39) and 16th in the 100 free (1:15.84). In her final LC race of this season, she dropped 2 seconds from her previous best in the 100 breaststroke, placing 2nd in a time of 1:31.86.

 

In the 15 and over events, Eli Mercier swam his way to 2 new personal bests in the 100m breast and the 200m free. Mercier placed 6th overall in the 100 breast in a time of 1:16.92 and 8th in the 200 free in a time of 2:15.13. He also placed 12th in the 100 free with a time of 1:01.29.
