Patrick Henry YMCA Swim Lessons
Our swim lessons prepare swimmers of all ages to stay safe and have fun in the water. Each lesson focuses on water safety, confidence, and developing fundamental swimming skills that support long-term success in the pool.
Important safety skills your swimmer will learn include:
• Ask Permission
Swimmers learn to ALWAYS ask a trusted adult before entering the water. This teaches the importance of swimming only with supervision.
• Jump, Push, Turn, Grab
Swimmers practice what to do if they accidentally fall into the water. They push off the bottom, surface for a breath, turn back to where they came from, and return to safety.
• Swim, Float, Swim
Swimmers learn how to rest and recover if tired. They roll onto their back to float and call for help, then continue swimming toward safety.
As swimmers progress through our lesson levels, they build the foundation for competitive swimming. Advanced levels introduce all four competitive strokes—freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly—along with improved technique, body position, and endurance.
Many of our swim team athletes started right here in our lesson program! Once swimmers can demonstrate proficiency in the strokes, they are ready to become a Piranha.
