FUNDRAISING
Registration fees alone do not cover the cost of operating a competitive swim club. Club expenses include pool rental fees, swim meet fees, coaching, lifeguards, swim equipment such as lane ropes and timing units, the ASSA swimmer registration fees, etc. Fundraising helps to keep the Camrose Swim Club’s registration fees to a reasonable level.
At registration, a post-dated $300 fundraising bond cheque per swimmer is collected. Cheques are cashed if fundraising obligations are not met. Cheques from swimmers who have fulfilled the fundraising obligations will be destroyed (or returned if indicated) at the end of August. All families in the Camrose Sea Serpents Swim Club MUST participate in ALL of the mandatory fundraisers. The fundraising cheques will be cashed if mandatory fundraisers are missed.
Mandatory Fundraisers for the 2025 Season:
Bottle Drive - Tuesday, May 20 from 5 pm - 8 pm
This is our major fundraiser for the year! There will be no swimming on this night so the bottle drive can happen. Go out as a family & help your swimmer collect bottles. Bring them to the Camrose Bottle Depot (3814 47 Ave). Some of us will be there from 5 pm - 8 pm that evening to sort bottles as they come in. If you haven't done a bottle drive before, a few tips are to have your swimmer in Sea Serpents gear (if they have any), remind your swimmer to tell people that they are with the Sea Serpents swim club and are doing a bottle drive to raise money for the team, bring lots of garbage bags to collect bottles in, and put a tarp down in your vehicle if you can as sometimes old bottles/cans aren't totally empty.
We encourage you to split the route and do part of it in advance if you have time. Any bottles collected ahead of time can be dropped off at the Bottle Depot during their business hours and held for us if you tell them they are for the Sea Serpents swim club. If you need to complete your route ahead of time and have dropped off your bottles, please email [email protected] so you can be crossed off the list as having completed your route. The night of the bottle drive, our Sea Serpents coordinator, Kirsten, will be helping sort bottles, wearing a bright yellow and orange vest so you can identify her easily. Please make sure she knows you've dropped off your bottles so she can cross your swimmer off the list. Bottles need to be dropped off by 7:30 pm at the latest so we have time to sort them.
Generally on the night of the drive, as families finish their collection, they stay to help sort bottles as its a BIG JOB! Its also a dirty/sticky job so don't wear your best clothes, and bring old gardening or work gloves that you may choose to toss after. Many hands make light work and it's a great way to show your team spirit and meet everyone.
If you're out on your route and encounter a home that doesn't have bottles, it can be helpful to have your Swim Mania pledge form and a pen with you so they can sponsor the swimmer for this. Remember that swimmers swim way more than they think they can for Swim Mania, so we only accept flat rate pledges for the whole event rather than per lap. We also have the 50/50 Raffle that people 18 & over can buy tickets for. This will be drawn at Regionals, which our pool is hosting, at the end of July (the poster is below).
Swim Mania - Monday, June 15
Swimmers collect flat rate pledges and then see how many laps of the pool they can swim in the span of one practice. Parent volunteers are needed to track the number of laps swum.
50/50 Raffle - May 1 to July 27
This is an easy online raffle that sells 50/50 tickets - each swimming family will have a minimum number of tickets to sell.
