KSC Senior Spotlight!
Senior Spotlight: Adeline Berry
How old were you and why did you decide to swim competitively?
I swam when I was much younger in elementary school (around 1st grade), but because of the highschool swimmers my practices started to get pushed back to 6 pm, meaning I wouldn’t of gotten home until 7:30 which coincidentally was my bedtime. Although after taking a 5 year break I started back up in 6th grade after some knee issues. Since then (7 years now) I have been swimming competitively and trying to prove to myself that you can become a good swimmer even when starting at a older age.
What’s your favorite event(s)? And, why?
100 Fly- fly has always been one of my favorite strokes for the sheer power it produces in the pool, plus how graceful it feels once your in the race (hopefully haha) Although it’s very important that I said 100 instead of 200, you won’t catch me swimming a 200 fly without crying at each wall.
50 free- there isn’t much to not love about the 50 free, it’s fast paced, fun, extremely competitive, plus you get to learn a entirely new way to swim freestyle that is much more power inclined instead of efficiency.
What advice do you want to share with the younger swimmers on KSC?
Keep on going! Find joy in every practice, even if it’s a true killer of a set. And also make time to really know why you love the sport! For me it’s the feeling of success and determination.
What are your plans for next year; going to college, in-state or out of state? If so, where? Taking a gap year? Going into a trade? And, is swimming part of this chapter?
I am going to University of Alaska Fairbanks to study business administration, plus swimming for their D2 program.
Favorite food/drink to help you stay hydrated and energized for swim meets? Follow up: favorite food to celebrate after meets with?
Favorite drink is strawberry watermelon or blue Gatorade , favorite snack during meet is strawberries and watermelon (lol I just saw that those match up). All time best after meet food is Panda Express!
I’m sure going to miss this team and all the of the swim parents along with it! Thank you so much for all you have done for me and my future.
