Weekly Check-In for Week of February 16, 2026

Hello Stingrays, and welcome to a new week. Here are this week’s highlights for SST:              

  • There is NO PRACTICE TODAY, MONDAY, due to heavy snow and hazardous road conditions. Our policy is to follow the lead of the school district regarding weather-related closures.

    • Otherwise, there is regular practice this week, and locker rooms remain open

  • Congratulations to our Age Group Championship Team on a wonderful meet this past weekend in Kodiak. SST finished 11th out of 19 teams and was the top team from the Interior. We had nearly all best times, zero DQs, and 11 medal winners. PDF results are HERE and will also be on our SwimCloud once loaded by the host.

    • Bubba Tompkins led the way with a Team Record in the 50 Breast, placing 2nd and making his first Age Group Zones cut! He also finished 1st in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 50 Back, 50 Fly (AG Zones cut), and IM, and 3rd in the 100 Breast (AG Sectionals).

    • Mican Fant won the 50 Fly and finished 4th in the 100 Free (new State cut), 5th in the 50 Free, and 6th in the 50 Breast.

    • Denver Franz dropped over 1.5 seconds in the 100 IM and finished 5th in the 200 Fly.

    • Zahna Kassel led the girls with a silver medal in the 50 Fly, 3rd in the 50 Free and 100 IM, and 4th in the 400 IM (State) and 100 Free.

    • Emmy Franz dropped over 17 seconds in the 100 Free and added new Summer Champ cuts in the 100 Free, 50 Fly, and 50 Back.

    • Zinnia Gold-Paulson scored five points for the team by finishing 4th in the 200 Free and 6th in the 100 Back.

    • Zaeya Kassel dropped time in 4 of 5 events including 11.6 seconds in her 100 IM.

  • The next local meet is the St. Patrick’s Day Meet on March 7 hosted by NPAC and located at Wescott Pool. You can now choose your events, or you can let the coaches choose events for you. The entry deadline is February 25.

  • Quick reminder: The Northern Area Conference Championships at Hamme Pool on April 10-12 is open to ALL STINGRAYS in Copper and above. We have won the Conference Title for 9 straight years and will need everyone in attendance to make it a Decade of Champions! The event file will be out soon, but you can commit to the meet now. GO SST!

  • We have stepped up on the Swim-a-Thon Fundraiser Campaign and have now secured $12,775 (the team goal is $42,000). The donation period goes through the end of the month, so please continue securing donations! If you have not started your campaign, please do so asap and let us know if you have questions.

    • Top individuals so far: Evelyn O ($675), Juniper T ($530), Sawyer T ($530)

      • Top individual overall will get a gift card of their choice

    • Top group average: Copper I ($383), Senior ($332), Gold ($294)

      • Top group will get a pizza party

    • The Parent User Guide is a helpful tool to get set up

    • The actual event full of fun, music, and food will be this Saturday at the Patty Pool!

      • Copper-Gold @ 11a-1p (free 30 minute pool time to follow)

      • Platinum-Senior @ 1:30-3:30p (this is a change to the original plan. UAF swimmers have made the NCAA Championships and thus need pool time. Thank you for your understanding and supporing the Nanooks)

  • We are working with our website provider on some bug fixes with the swim lesson platform (the reason for this delayed weekly check-in), but we will be opening two more lesson blocks now that Patty Pool is not closing for maintenance until May. Below are the additional lesson dates, and we will send out a message once the website gremlins are fixed.
