"Bridging the gap between lessons and swim team"

 

PRE-TEAM

(Level 5 Lessons)

Practice: Tuesday - Thursday

30 minutes        Limit 6 - 8 Swimmers

Criteria: Completion of Level 4 lesson or equivalent

 

Discovery Pre-Team is similar to the Level 5 lesson group, oriented more towards a swim team practice, after graduating from Level 4 lessons.  Discovery Pre-Team continues working on getting your child comfortable with the water, having some fun, building team spirit, and teaching stroke development. Bettendorf Aquatics Club Coaching Team will coach this program under the Head Coach's guidance and direction. The Swimmer/Coach ratio will be lower than a typical practice group to ensure EVERY Swimmer receives the required attention and instruction to be successful. Discovery Pre-Team will continue developing the skills learned in Level 4 focus on Freestyle and Backstroke and introduction the basic fundamentals for Butterfly and Breaststroke.  The objective for evfery Discovery Pre-Team Swimmer is to compete in a 25/50 yard freestyle and backstroke event.  Swimmers in the Discovery Pre-Team are official members of the Bettendorf Aquatics Club swim team, registered Swimmers under USA Swimming's FLEX membership and are eligible to compete in TWO sanctioned meets a year.

Move up criteria:

  • Legal in freestyle and backstroke

  • Understand the basic fundamentals of breaststroke and freestyle

  • Able to do freestyle and backstroke flip turns

  • Able to compete in the 25 yard freestyle and backstroke events

 

ADVANCED

(Level 6 Lessons)

Practice: Tuesday - Thursday

45 minutes            Limit 10 - 12 Swimmers

Criteria: Completion of Level 5 Lessons, Pre-Team, or equivalent

Discovery Advanced is an extension to the existing swim lesson structure, consider it Level 6 lessons for swimmers interested in continuing to the competitive Swim Team.  The Discovery Advanced group will pick up where Level 5 lessons and Discovery Pre-Team left off; introducing and developing Butterfly and Breaststroke and continue stroke development for Freestyle, and Backstroke. The basic fundamental for turns and racing starts will be introduced.  This is the first level of our competitive team. Swimmers in the Discovery Advanced group are official members of the Bettendorf Aquatics Club swim team, registered Swimmers under USA Swimming's FLEX membership and are eligible to compete in TWO sanctioned meets a year.

Move up criteria:

  • Legal in all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly)

  • Able to perform legal turns for all four competitive strokes

  • Able to compete in the 25 yard events for all four competitive strokes
