ONTARIO FESTIVALS STANDARDS 2024
Ontario Festival time standards are set by Swim Ontario. There are two meets, one in mid-February and the other in mid-June. The meet features the best 13 & under swimmers in the province. Both meets are short course (25m) and any qualifier gets one bonus race. The 12 & over swimmers race in the morning, while the 11 & under swimmers race in the afternoon over a two day period.
ONTARIO YOUTH JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP STANDARDS 2024
As a stepping stone between Regionals and Provincials, Ontario Youth Championship standards are a way to cater to those who are progressing towards achieving Provincial times. The meet is held in the afternoon between Provincials prelims and finals over a four day period. Qualified swimmers may race four events as you are permitted up to 3 bonus events. The meets are long course (50m) and happen at the beginning of March and the beginning of July.
PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP STANDARDS 2023
Swim Ontario has a host club run Provincial Championships at the start of March and July. These are very tough times to achieve (MUCH FASTER THIS SEASON) and swimmers are allotted one bonus time to a maximum of seven events. Races happen over a four day period and have both prelims in the morning and finals at night. Both competitions are held in a long course (50m) format.
NATIONAL LEVEL
There are multiple levels of competition at the national level. The first meet of the season is Canadian Trials held in early April and has the toughest qualifying standards. Eastern/Western Canadian Open is held in late April with two age groups, 15 & under / 16 & over for females and 16 & under males / 17 & over males, over a four day period. Jr. Nationals take place in late July over a five day event and have difficult standards for many individual age groups (13 & under, 14, 15, 16, 17), but are raced as female 13-14 / 15-17 and male 14-16 / 17 & 18. Canadian Championships (Sr. Nationals) happen at the beginning of August and feature many of the best swimmers in Canada. All national events are long course (50m) and the time standards may only be achieved in long course (no converted short course times allowed).
On track times are used as indicators for potential Olympic podium finishes.
