CAJ Makes Waves at Welland International Flatwater Centre
SEPTEMBER 8 2024 - Participating in their first ever Open Water Swim, Emiliano Cardenas-Granados and Mikayla Heeley raced hard to capture first and second place in their divisions respectively at the Welland International Flatwater Centre on Sunday September 8th, 2024.
Despite the cool air temperature, Cambridge Aquajets swimmers Cardenas-Granados and Heeley suited up in their best wetsuits and braved the Welland Canal waters. Both swimmers raced in the 2.5 km, a favoured distance of the Open Water Community. While learning to sight and navigate the "splashy" and murky waters, Cardenas-Granados and Heeley settled into a comfortable pace and stayed strong throughout the swim. Emiliano touched with a time of 33:03.02, finishing first in the men's race and second overall. Mikayla touched with a time of 33:08.40, finishing second in the women's race and third overall. Great racing Aquajets and way to kick off the season strong!
