November Newsletter #1
Hello LASC Families,
I hope you were all able to enjoy a bit of the lovely sunrise this morning on this fine fall day. Here is some information on upcoming items for the next few weeks. There are quite a number of items for this newsletter, so please read through and feel free to contact me over any of the following.
Scheduling
A reminder that this week is a bit of a different week for our practice schedule. You can find the schedule on our website here.
Please note that all practices for the Olympic Way, Provincial, Jr. National, and National groups are held out of the Stan Siwik and Nicholas Sheran pools this week.
Next week we return to our regular schedule, which you can find on the website here, starting Tuesday, November 12th. The University pool's new bulkheads are looking bright and shiny this morning, and we can’t wait to see the whole club back in the pool.
There will be NO Practice for all groups this coming Monday, November 11th, in observance of Remembrance Day.
Jr. Horns
We are excited for the start of Jr. Horns, next Tuesday, November 12th. Our coaches are excited to get the season kicked off and get our newest swimmers into the pool. We will see you on deck at the Max Bell Aquatic Centre next week!
2024 Re/Max Elk Valley Fall Blast - Meet Recap
A big round of applause for the swimmers who competed this past weekend down in Fernie at the Fall Blast. The name found itself to be entirely accurate as many swimmers and spectators were having an absolute blast while at the competition this past weekend. The team saw over 150 lifetime personal best’s set during the course of the meet with all 36 swimmers contributing to the massive tally. I have a bag stuffed full of medals to hand out to many swimmers for such a successful meet. For most of the swimmers in attendace, it was the first meet of the year and the excitement may be hard to top with the Elk Valley Dolphins putting on a rather entertaining affair. With an announcer for the entire meet and exciting bounty races at the end of Saturday Night Finals, the building was rocking all weekend long. There was an exciting cash prize at the meet, swimmers in the Finals of the 50 Free were given time standards to beat, with successful swimmers eligible to win up to $1000.00 for their club. One of our own swimmers, Kate Machacek, was able to clear the given ‘Bounty Times’ and since she was the sole swimmer to do so, LASC was awarded the full $1000.00 from the Elk Valley Dolphins. A big thank you to all of the swimmers who came, raced their hearts out, and supported their teammates, you all made the meet very special for everyone in attendance. A thank you to the parents and family members who helped bring their swimmers to the meet and all of the support you give them. And finally, a massive thank you to all of the LASC parents who volunteered their time to help with timing and officialling at the meet to allow for such a smooth and fun event.

International Student - Housing Inquiry
We have an international student who will be coming to Lethbridge to study and swim with us and we are looking for families that would be able to facilitate and have him live with them for the duration of his stay. He is a high school student coming to us from France and will be here for approximately two months, from January to March. He will be swimming with the National group and will more than likely need assistance with transportation with regards to practice. He would be attending either Coalhurst High School or Prairie Winds Secondary School in Coaldale, depending on where the family we will be staying with lives. He would qualify for bussing to either school with pickup/dropoff options located within the city of Lethbridge.
To be eligible to host you must have a private bedroom with a bed and dresser/closet as well as a desk if possible. Families should be able to provide 3 meals per day, as well as emotional, academic, and transportation help. There is a $900 per month reimbursement/compensation for your assistance in this endeavor. Finally the family must have valid criminal record checks with vulnerable sectors (cost to be reimbursed) and a home visit done by the Palliser School Division’s Homestay Coordinator to approve the application.
If this is something that interests you and your family, please reach out and I will provide further information on the program and the student, Elio.
Thank you very much.
If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected] and I would be happy to help.
Take care and swim fast!
