January Newsletter #1

Josh Sorensen

Hello LASC Families,

I hope you were all able to enjoy your winter break and were able to connect with friends and family during the holidays and over New Years. Here is some information on upcoming items for the next few weeks.

Scheduling

While our competitive groups hopped in the water this past Thursday, we’re looking forward to the return of the whole club, including Jr. Horns and Masters, this Monday, January 6th.

Upcoming Meets

Alberta Winter Festivals - Edmonton - January 24th - 26th

Congratulations and best of luck to all of the swimmers who qualified for the meet! The Time Standards took a huge leap this year and got quite a bit faster, so congratulations to all of the swimmers who garnered their times.

UCSC Grand Prix - Calgary - January 31th - Feb 2nd

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the meet. This is a 3 day Heats and Finals meet for Academy and National Swimmers only.

Maverick Madness - Calgary - Feb 7th - 9th

Our entry deadline will be this Wednesday, January 8th. You can find the meet package and details on our events page. The meet will be open to swimmers in the National, Jr. National, Provincial, and Olympic Way groups. This is an exciting meet at the Seton YMCA Pool in South Calgary featuring eliminator races and events from 25m - 400m.

LASC Friday Night Races - February 14th

This will be our first Friday Night Races of the 2025 new year and we invite all members of the club, from Academy to Jr. Horns to come and participate. The event will run from 4:30 - 6:00 PM.

Western Transmountain Festival III - Calgary - Feb 21-22

Registration and the meet package will be posted, once they are available, on our event page. Registration deadline will be January 24th. This meet will be open to qualifying swimmers in the Academy, National, and Jr. National groups. Qualifying standards will most likely be similar to Cascade Speed Meet standards from earlier this season. This two-day event is a part of a larger series meet where Cascade is doing three 2 day meets across the span of 9 days.

Winter Provincial Trials (Mar 7-9th) & Winter Provincial Championships (Mar 21-23rd)

In March we have two Provincial Competitions that require qualifying times in order to attend. Winter Provincial Trials will be held in Calgary and require at least one Provincial Trial Qualifying Time. WInter Provincial Championships will be held in Edmonton and will require at least one Championship Qualifying Time. You can find the list of current qualifiers along with time standards on our website here.

Movie Day

We have a Movie Day coming up on January 18th, following the end of our Saturday morning practices. We have two movie theatres booked for the club where we will have two separate movies playing. More information will be circulated shortly.

If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected] and I would be happy to help.

Take care and swim fast!
