February Newsletter #1

Josh Sorensen

Hello LASC Families,

I hope you have all been able to keep warm these past few days. Here is some information on upcoming items for the next few weeks.

UCSC Grand Prix

Thirteen LASC swimmers traveled to Calgary this past weekend to compete in the UCSC Grand Prix out of the University of Calgary Pool. The group consisted of swimmers from the Academy  and National groups. The event had a mixture of Heats and Finals events along with some Timed Final swims. Swimmers competed in both Short Course and Long Course races over the span of the 3 day meet. All told, the swimmers walked away with 28 PBs which is an excellent sight to see after the first long course meet of the season. These swimmers are still in training mode as they are gearing up for Provincial Trials and Championships in March.

Upcoming Meets

Maverick Madness - Calgary - Feb 7th - 9th

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the meet. We have almost 50 LASC swimmers registered for what appears to be an exciting meet at the Seton YMCA Pool in South Calgary. Meet info and swimmer entries are attached to our meet event page, you can find current timelines, heats, and psych sheets in Meet Mobile.

LASC Friday Night Races - February 14th

This will be our first Friday Night Races of the 2025 new year and we invite all members of the club, from Academy to Jr. Horns to come and participate. The event will run from 4:30 - 6:00 PM.

Western Transmountain Festival III - Calgary - Feb 21-22

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the meet. This meet was open to qualifying swimmers in the Academy, National, and Jr. National groups. Long Course Qualifying standards are listed in the meet package. The meet package and information is on our website and entries will be posted there shortly.

Winter Provincial Trials (Mar 7-9th) & Winter Provincial Championships (Mar 21-23rd)

In March we have two Provincial Competitions that require qualifying times in order to attend. Winter Provincial Trials will be held in Calgary and require at least one Provincial Trial Qualifying Time. Winter Provincial Championships will be held in Edmonton and will require at least one Championship Qualifying Time. You can find the list of current qualifiers along with time standards on our website here

Bridge City Spring Classic - Saskatoon (April 10-13th)

This is a brand new meet on the schedule for us this year as we are looking to bring a group out to Saskatoon for some long course racing. The plan is to do this as a Team Travel event with the swimmers taking a bus over with the coaches and chaperones. It is a long course, heats and finals meet at the fabulous Shaw Centre in sunny Saskatoon and we would like to invite swimmers from the Academy, National, Jr. National, and Provincial groups to attend. We do need a sufficient number of swimmers to make team travel viable, however, we still plan on attending the meet on personal travel if we do not meet that threshold. You can sign-up and find more information on our event page, please indicate whether you will be doing team or personal travel.

Thanks and take care,
Josh
